The screenplay of "Robocop" (1987) was offered to, and rejected by many big directors in Hollywood before Paul Verhoeven got hold of it. He received it while on holiday in France. After skimming through a few pages, Verhoeven thought it was "terrible and completely ridiculous." he threw it away and went for a swim. When he came back, he saw his wife was reading the script. He said to her, "Well, that's a piece of shit". She disagreed with him & replied, "I think you're wrong. Read it again because there are many possibilities here for you to do something different and interesting." And because of her, Verhoeven decided to read it again more carefully. Even though Verhoeven's English was good for a foreigner, it was a little difficult for him. So, he had a dictionary next to him and read the script. It was slow going for him as he didn't understand many words, yet ultimately he saw what his had seen and what she thought that he had the ability to do, half-action, almost half-comedy with it. He then called the studio head and agreed to have a meeting to finalise if he was to director the movie. I remember I had asked Brandon Aiyuk in the offseason if he would be down to do a YouTube live interview and he said that it wasn’t a good time and he’d let me know if something worked out. Naturally I just thought he was good off doing the interview which is perfectly fine but right after the 49ers lost to Philly in the NFCCG, he reached out and dm’d me if I wanted to setup an interview. I thought that was so cool that he really reached back out to set up the interview with me like he said he would. We did the interview, he was great, laid back, we talked ball, the chat was absolutely electric. My favorite interview I’ve ever done. I know BA has done a lot of extremely questionable things as of late but I genuinely miss this dude who just chopped it up with me on stream for over an hour and was super generous with his time.

After one particular argument, Singleton refused to come out of his trailer. Christian Bale didn't have any interest in playing the part of the villain, as he had just finished making American Psycho (2000). But he was reading through lines with Toni Collette, who has the part of the witness in the film, one day, and decided to give it a go as another villain after all. 🎬 SHAFT (2000)
