🇱🇧 BREAKING — Israeli Strikes Across Lebanon Israeli warplanes carried out new attacks across southern and eastern Lebanon, killing at least four people and wounding several others, according to local authorities, and a journalist on the ground who spoke with Drop Site News. In Arabsalim, Israeli missiles struck a room containing bulldozing equipment near the municipality building, killing Zeinab Moussa, 80, and Maher Younes, a local butcher, 43, and injuring three others. Residents said the blast destroyed the structure, damaged nearby homes, and fits Israel’s wider pattern of striking storage sites for reconstruction equipment – sites it calls “Hezbollah depots” and “warehouses.” Further east, a wave of airstrikes hit Janta and Shmastar in the eastern Bekaa Valley, killing two people and wounding several others. Windows shattered at a nearby school, and students were treated for injuries and shock. Lebanese officials condemned the attacks as renewed violations of sovereignty, noting they mark another serious escalation despite a ceasefire signed in late 2024. (Information from Drop Site sources and L’Orient Today, NNA, Anadolu Agency) —— 🎥 1: Israeli aircraft launched a wave of airstrikes on hills surrounding the town of Shmastar in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa region. 🎥 2: Israeli warplanes struck the town of Arabsalim in southern Lebanon. 📷 1: Zeinab Moussa, 80, killed in Israeli airstrike on Arabsalim, southern Lebanon. They found him where the fighting had been the worst. Alone. Rifle empty. Magazines spent. And 23 enemy soldiers lying around his position. Private First Class Gary Martini was just 19 years old in April 1967 when his unit was ambushed in Vietnam. The jungle erupted with gunfire. Grenades exp|*ded. The line began to buckle under heavy attack. Martini did not pull back. He stayed where he was and returned fire. Wave after wave came at his position. He fired until his magazines were empty. Then he reloaded. Then fired again. The enemy tried to break through his sector. He would not let them. Somewhere in that storm of bullets and smoke, he was fatally w*unded. When the battle ended and his fellow soldiers moved through the wreckage, they found him still at his post. Around him lay 23 enemy bodies. He had held the line almost single handedly. He was 19. Nineteen. Most teenagers worry about school, about the future, about small things. Gary Martini faced d**th and refused to give ground. His stand bought time for his unit. Time to regroup. Time to survive. For his actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. looked like. A young soldier, alone in a jungle clearing, fighting until there was nothing left to fire. He did not run. He did not surrender. He fought until the end. Back home, his name faded with the years. The war became a chapter in a textbook. The faces became numbers. But once, in a violent clearing in Vietnam, a 19 year old stood his ground against overwhelming odds. 🫡🙏

[Discrete Fourier Transform] by Hand ✍️ In signal processing, the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is no doubt the most important method. But the math involved is extremely complex, literally, involving a summation over a complex number term e^(-iwt). I developed this exercise to demonstrate that underneath such complexity, DFT is just a series of matrix multiplications you can calculate by hand. ✍️ Once you see that, it should not surprise you that a deep neural network, which is also a series of matrix multiplications, with activation functions in-between, can learn to perform DFT to process and analyze signals so effectively. How does DFT work? [1] Given ↳ Signals A, B, and C in the 🟧 frequency domain: ◦ A = cos(w) + 2cos(2w) ◦ B = cos(w) + cos(3w) + cos(4w) ◦ C = -cos(2w) + cos(3w) ◦ Each signal is a weighed sum of four cosine waves at frequencies 1w, 2w, 3w, and 4w. ◦ We will apply Inverse DFT to convert the signals to time domain representations, and then demonstrate DFT can convert back to their original frequency domain representations. ↳ Signal X in the 🟩 time domain. X is sampled at 10 time points 1t, 2t, …, 10t: ◦ X = [-2.5, -1.8, 3, -0.7, -1.0, -0.7, 3, -1.8, -2.5, 5] ◦ Suppose X is also a weighted sum of the same four cosine waves, but we don’t already know their weights. We will apply DFT to discover them. [2] 🟧 Frequency Matrix (F) ↳ Write the coefficients of A, B, C as a matrix F. Each signal is a row. Each frequency is a column. ↳ A → [1, 2, 0, 0] ↳ B → [1, 0, 1, 1] ↳ C → [0, 1-, 1, 0] [3] Cosine → Discrete ↳ Sample from the continuous cosine waves at discrete time points 1t, 2t, 3t, to 10t. [4] Cosine Matrix (W) ↳ Write the samples as a matrix, Each frequency is a row. Each time point is a column. [5] Inverse DFT: 🟧 Frequency → 🟩 Time ↳ Multiply the frequency matrix F and the cosine matrix W. ↳ The meaning of this multiplication is to linearly combine the four cosine waves (rows in W) into time-domain signals (rows in T) using the weights specified in F. ↳ The result is matrix T, which are signals A, B, C converted to the time domain. Each signal is a row. Each time point is a column. [6] Transpose ↳ Transpose T, converting each signal’s time domain representation from a row to a column. [7] DFT: 🟩 Time → 🟧 Frequency ↳ Multiply the cosine matrix W with the transpose of matrix T. ↳ The purpose of this multiplication is to take a dot-product between each time-domain signal (columns in the transpose of T) and each cosine wave (rows in W), which has the effect of projecting the signal onto a cosine wave to determine how much they are correlated. Zero means not correlated at all. ↳ The result is an intermediate version of the “recovered” frequency matrix where each column corresponds to a signal and each row corresponds to a frequency. ↳ Compared to the original frequency matrix F, this intermediate matrix has non-zero weights in the correct places, but scaled up by a factor of 5 (n/2, n=10). For example, signal A, originally [1,2,0,0], is recovered at [5,10,0,0]. [8] Scale ↳ Multiply each value by 2/n = 1/5 to scale down the intermediate matrix to match the magnitude of the original frequency matrix F. [9] Transpose ↳ Transpose the recovered frequency matrix back to the same orientation of the original frequency matrix F. ↳ Like magic 🪄, the result is identical to the original F, which means DFT successfully recovered the frequency components of signals A, B, C. [10] Apply DFT to X: 🟩 Time → 🟧 Frequency ↳ Now that we have some confidence in DFT’s ability to recover frequency components, we apply DFT to X’s time-domain representation by multiplying W with X. ↳ The result is the an intermediate matrix. [11] Scale ↳ Similarly, we scale down by a factor of 5 to obtain the recovered frequency components of X (a column). [12] Transpose ↳ Similarly, we transpose the recovered column to row to match the orientation of the frequency matrix. ↳ Using the coefficients [0,0,3,2], we can write the equation of X as 3cos(3w) + 2cos(4w). Notes: I hope this by hand exercise helps you understand the essence of DFT. But there is more technical details, such as: • Sine: The complete DFT math also includes sine waves that follow a similar calculation process. • Phase: Here, we assume all the cosine waves are aligned at the origin, namely, phase is 0. If a phase p is added, for example, cos(w+p), we will need to calculate the sine component and use their ratio to figure out what p is. • Magnitude: If phase is not zero, the magnitude will need to be calculated by combining both cosine and sine terms.

PREVIEW: I was invited to a press preview of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in Paris, back in April, as I previously mentioned, and I played ~3 hours🚀 Here are my impressions: 🎞️Visuals & Performance: being a remake, the visuals are quite well upgraded, making the most of modern tech and the beauty of the setting, creating a breathtaking atmosphere ✅Stunning environment ✅Dreamy natural beauty & grounded world ✅Photorealistic character models ✅Smooth animations ✅Sharp resolution ✅Runs at 60fps 🕹️Gameplay & Upgrades: The game is a faithful remake, with new gameplay systems, along with enhancements to the original formula ✅New gameplay systems ✅Faithfulness is the main priority ✅Enhanced parkour (still faithful) ✅Manual jumps and side ejects ✅Seamless exploration of cities ✅Zip-lines added ✅Dynamic weather ✅Brand new content expanding narrative ✅Quests with new secrets ✅Original modern day replace with rifts ✅Rifts explore “what if” scenarios ✅6 hours of extra gameplay ✅3 new recruitable officers ✅New storylines for the new officers ✅New chapter to play as Robert Mena ✅Extended endings for iconic characters ✅Hideout side quests ✅New collectibles ✅Forts modernized with new content ✅New voice lines for activities ✅New islands with rewarding secrets ✅New world moments ✅New content for the hideout ✅History of the villa explored ✅Heated shots new naval weapon in seq 3 ✅Explosive fire barrels w/wider effect ✅Swivel gun can now be manually aimed ✅Rebuilt combat system rewarding to skill ✅No skill trees, all unlocks from the start ✅Enemies now have defense meter ✅Meter is depleted with a perfect parry ✅New perfect parry depends on weapon ✅Heavy strike (high damage/wide area) ✅Shove to wall/ground > new take downs ✅Stealth inspired by Shadows ✅Crouch option added ✅Visibility affected by day/night & weather ✅Whistle/breaking things blow your cover ✅Rope dart unlocks in sequence 3 ✅Ambient dialogue leads to new quests ✅Raise and lower your hood option The new enhancements make the game far more entertaining compared to the original, except for one controversial change of bit having Hidden Blade combat, except in stealth assassinations/take downs Everything else effectively elevates the original design and makes gameplay either feel just as good, or more refined 🧬Changes: with this remake comes a few elements that were removed from the original, which may upset some players ✅Menus have been revamped and they don’t feature the DNA sequence tracker ✅Difficulty can be tailored with much more detail from the menu ✅Switch between and choose your favorite Sea Shanties to be performed by your crew ✅No hidden blade combat. The Hidden Blade is mainly used for stealth take-downs ✅No present day segments. I was informed that it will be replaced with new moments that explore Edward’s past with his wife, along with some “what if” scenarios like Edward siding with the Templars, for example, likely related to Juno’s involvement in the original narrative 📜Thoughts: While the demo I played featured only a portion of the map, Resynced has potential to replace the original as the definitive experience of Edward Kenway’s story I also wasn’t able to experience any of Rifts that replace the modern day, so for me, as a fan of the series’ lore and present day since 2007, the absence of a traditional modern day is the only let down that prevents me from fully replacing the original with it, as present day and sci-do elements are the DNA of the franchise and what makes it stand out It would also be great if mission replay is added later, a feature the OG had by default, like its predecessors That said, everything else very much elevated what was in the original, which made going back to replay it show how dated it feels by comparison I look forward to the final game, and to see future games inherit this formula of a defined protagonist, focused progression and no RPG elements😎

A group of alleged child predators were arrested after they'd been working around children and families aboard a Disney cruise. They were apprehended by the same immigration agents Democrats want to defund. KNSD reported Wednesday that a Disney cruise docked in San Diego after a trip with stops in Ensenada, Baja California, as well as Catalina Island, where federal agents took several employees into custody. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Sandra Grisolia released a statement about the raid: “On April 28, HSI San Diego arrested twenty-three crewmembers from multiple cruise ships at the Port of San Diego as part of Operation Tidal Wave. The arrests targeted individuals suspected of involvement with Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), based on information received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children." Political commentator Libs of TikTok posted footage of the arrests to social media platform X. "The arrestees were transported to Los Angeles for processing, and their visas were revoked," the ICE spokeswoman continued. The New York Post clarified that it's unclear which other ships from companies outside of Disney may have been involved. Dharmi Mehta, a passenger on a Disney cruise, said that witnessing the arrests was "really unsettling." She commented on the arrest of the head waiter, saying, “So that was just my big concern like how is he gonna reach out to his family? Does the family even know that he’s not getting back on the ship today?” Mehta later attended a press conference with immigrant rights groups. Benjamin Prado from Union del Barrio stated, “This is not an isolated incident,” adding, “In fact, it has become a growing pattern, not only here in San Diego but throughout this country. “It is our responsibility as a society, as working people, to really denounce these actions by Customs and Border Protection, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the prolonged detention of migrant workers, whether it be here in our own community as well as those that work on ships." Perhaps Mehta and Prado feel differently now knowing they're defending accused child predators. The arrested included Filipinos, an Indonesian, and a Portuguese crewmember. Per the New York Post, U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated of those individuals, "Officers confirmed all subjects were involved in either the receipt, possession, transportation, distribution, or viewing of CSEM or child pornography." CSEM stands for "child sexual exploitation material." Disney needs to do a lot more vetting when hiring their crew members. Parents are likely mortified to know these monsters were lurking around their children. If Democrats had their way, the operation to catch these people would not have gone through. Immigration officials are compared to Adolf Hitler's Gestapo or some other secret police for a totalitarian regime. By interfering with their work, real evil is allowed to flourish.
