Sanders: I am not a great fan of the affordable care act. I believe in medicare for all. I think that health care is a human right, but I will be damned if I'm going to see people in Vermont and around this country see a doubling in their premiums. When people today can't afford housing, they can't afford health care, they can't afford child care. We can't allow that to happen.

Sanders: I am not going to go back to Vermont and tell 45,000 people that they no longer have health care. And to tell many, many thousands of others who can't afford it, can't afford it, that their premiums are going to double. Republicans understand that they are losing this battle, and I think they're going to begin to understand they have to come to the table and negotiate a reasonable agreement.

Can you imagine what’s going to happen when people go online and see they’ll have to pay exorbitant amounts for their health care? They won’t be able to afford it. Many of them will turn away and not pay for it—obviously, they’ll lose their health insurance. And as we know from the old Obamacare discussions, the fewer people who have insurance under our current system, the more everybody pays.
