@alexfinn everyone is now saying Claude code is dead & got worse. codex is better? Is this true? I really don’t want to keep swapping Ai tools. was hoping to stick with Claude code. How’s your experience?

Peter Yang's profile picture
Peter Yang1 year ago

@alexfinn I don't really use it for working in large code bases so for my use cases (coding personal tools, non-coding) I find it perfectly fine. Also these tools are changing all the time so yeah I don't like swapping either (although I'm sure Codex is great too).

My strategy is to pick a set of tools I’m comfortable with and learn where they’re good/not so good. Just get proficient on the tools in your toolbox. Every tool is evolving rapidly, so sometimes you’ll be using the best, sometimes not so much. But if you keep jumping from tool to tool, you’re just resetting your learning curve all the time.

@petergyang @alexfinn yes totally agree. i'm beginning to feel “switching cost” as every reset feels like i'm starting over again as each tool or model has its own meta nuances you need to learn. what is your go to ai tool stack at present?

E__Strobel's profile picture
E__Strobel1 year ago

@petergyang @alexfinn Paid: Grok, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor Free: Perplexity, Claude, LM Studio for open weight models But I still consider myself in the learning stage.

@alexfinn About damn time. 😭 About to speed run this on 1.5x. I’m all for using cloud code beyond programming. Sure, you can code with it, but you'd miss out on boosting your needs and AI agents' skills. How else are we going to know how far we can take this? (builder coded fr 😎)

Where can I get the prompts? This is awesome. I've been doing something similar in claude projects. and it's been super helpful. But yours is far more detailed. The big reason I chose projects (though it probably better belongs in code is because I connected my google calendar and gmail using Rube by @composio

@alexfinn @alexfinn great tutorial and explanation, very useful to see how you think and work and what methods you found. I'm curious what you do with attachments like images, videos and stuff like that.. have you found a way to easily integrate them with your flow?

@alexfinn I have been using Claude Code for months built 3 apps so far… I have yet been able to monetize. Might be the focus of the app, might just be that I can’t market. But I keep at it. Newest and closest to my heart.

@alexfinn That’s a clever use of Claude Code. Do you think setups like this will make personal operating systems built on AI agents more common in daily workflows?

@alexfinn Super cool setup 🔥 I’m curious how customizable those slash commands are. In Webflow/Framer workflows, I often hit repetitive tasks (asset management, content syncing). Wondering if Claude Code could streamline that too.

@alexfinn this was really helpful to see CC in action for non-coding tasks. The newsletter subagents and that progress dashboard are just super clever. ty for sharing

@alexfinn claude code is legit powerful but calling it a "life os" is peak productivity guru energy lol that said the slash commands setup is actually clever, might steal this approach

@alexfinn I'm always surprised by the actual utility when people share real use cases for these agents. Most demos just skim over the gritty stuff. Saving multiple hours a day is definitely no joke.

Noah Brier (Noah Brier) uses Claude Code as his second brain—it’s the coolest notetaking setup I’ve ever seen. He has Claude running on a server in his basement hooked up to a VPN. It stores, reads, and writes to thousands of notes in his Obsidian (Obsidian) vault. He does it all from his phone. I had him on the show to tell us exactly how he’s pulling this off. We get into: - The nuts and bolts of the Claude Code-Obsidian setup: Noah set up Claude Code on top of his Obsidian root directory, and he walked me through how he uses it to prep for an upcoming speech—creating a project folder, pulling in relevant research from his notes, saving transcripts from chats with other LLMs, and generating daily progress updates. - The “thinking partner” that lives inside Noah’s second brain: Noah points out that in the hype around AI’s ability to write, the fact that it can read is overlooked. That’s why he has an agent inside Claude Code with strict guardrails to stay in “thinking mode.” It logs his questions, tracks insights, and catches him up on research if he returns to a project after a few days away. - How Noah does deep work on his phone: Noah rigged a home server in his basement, put his Obsidian vault in it—and then runs Claude Code on top. Noah says that being able to think, write, research, and ship code from his phone has fundamentally changed the way he works.
