Introducing TinyClaw 🦞 OpenClaw in 400 LoC OpenClaw🦞 is great, but it breaks all the time. So I recreated OpenClaw🦞 with just a shell script in ~400 lines of code using Claude Code and tmux. Everything works! WhatsApp channels, heartbeat system, cron jobs, and it uses your existing Claude Code plugins and setup. It’s super stable and extremely easy to deploy compared to openclaw, just install Claude Code!

Here’s the basic flow: → Install Claude Code with the official installer. → Create a free OpenRouter account. → Grab your API key. → Install Claude Code Router. → Point Claude Code to the local router. → Choose a free model with the :free suffix. → Run CCR code instead of normal Claude Code. → Check /status to confirm it works. You keep the Claude Code workflow. You just route it through a free model.

When OpenClaw was at peak hype a few months ago, everyone was going crazy over it — for good reasons. But almost nobody made the obvious comparison: Claude Code already does the thing you love about OpenClaw. In a lot of cases, better. Here's why people missed it. You have to understand the difference between a model and a harness. OpenClaw, at the end of the day, is just a harness on top of AI models. And Claude Code is too — it just got marketed as a coding tool, an alternative to Cursor. Until Cowork launched, almost nobody looked at it as a tool for non-programmers. There are now 30+ alternatives to OpenClaw. But, I still have not found one that is as good overall. Why? Because OpenClaw hits the sweet spot. It is smooth. It is easy to use. It comes with its own UI gateway. Some alternatives are more secure, but the UI is worse. Others are more lightweight, but way more technical to set up. OpenClaw has the best balance of power, simplicity, and usability.
