Against which occupation did they fight between 1949 to 1967? They were under Egypt and Jordan and still attacked Israel. So... if the whole thing is an occupation... why didn't they fight against the occupiers?

If everything is a debate to be won or lost, what does that mean for actual communication?

The simple answer is that they think that all occupational resistance is justified, essentially the moral fault of the occupier. I'm not sure why that's hard to say. They would have to give up the legal argument, but they also don't actually care about the legal argument.
