The same thing happened at my current job. The HR person told me one amount, but when the operations manager offered me the job, they said an amount 15K less than what HR told me. The CEO called me personally, rectified the situation, and then fired the operations manager who was trying to pull a fast one.

I once took a job at Blockbuster as a kid and they were paying me a dollar less than they promised they would. When I pointed it out after the first payment they said they would fix it next time. When I pointed it out the next time they said oh it was too late to fix it is what it is. So I quit that job the day before Thanksgiving. Which happened to be the busiest day of the year for them. My toxic boss had to work it by herself because no one else would pick up my shift

Or they start you higher and after you correct or fix the IT based issues, find reason to lower your base by 10k+. with a lacking staff and leadership, playing the performance issue. Was time to walk, and that 500k new virtual system, is still a sitting paper weight, priceless.

This is a warning signal. I would not stop looking for another opportunity.

Not sure what the job is, but most places are now offering around (barely) 55k to people with over 25 years experience… Regardless, if someone offers one rate, then it shouldn’t be a disputed - but having said that, the attitude from that employer (or whatever) is enough for me to say no thanks, and walk away. You don’t want to work for someone with that tone/personality.

I actually had this happen before with the same numbers. Job app said $90k, I confirmed $90k before coming in then during the interview she said I would be starting at $60k lol
