If you’ve played Final Fantasy before, you know who Ifrit is. To put it simply, Clive is Ifrit’s host and can call upon his powers to use his abilities and transform into Ifrit itself. FF16 explained more on this but I don’t wanna spoil it if you’re interested in the story.

He's the godzilla monster in the background and he has a dante devil mode in the game. Game also has people from DMC5 do the combat system

He's a Dominant, blessed by an eikon (basically a summonable pseudo-deity, in this case Ifrit). He can use its power without fully summoning it (when he gets the flames) or do a full summoning and transform into it

It’s like if final fantasy, devil may cry and attack on titan all mixed into one character. Thats Clive

-TLDR, Imagine Dante from Devil May Cry. FF16, the devs grab the Combat Designer from Devil May Cry 5. Take care!

Clive is a Jinchuuriki from Naruto. Through the game he steals other summons/"tailed beasts" from people and uses their powers, which is reflected in his moveset.

Final Fantasy has summons, in FF16 the characters have these summons within them. Ifrit is Clive's summon/him.

In the world of FFXVI, the recurring summons like Ifrit, Ramuh, and Shiva, are basically treated like the Tailed Beasts or the Nine Titans. Whoever is the host, or Dominant as they’re called, can transform into them at will. Clive is the Dominant of Ifrit.
