CM Vijay has apologized in assembly today, for his party's minister committing the horrific sin of referring to Karunanidhi by his real name instead of his honorifics Kalaignar. Throwback to Cho's hilarious explanation of his usage of Karunanidhi vs Kalaignar over time 😂

As a Bengali, I had never heard of him until recently. Turns out he was a fascinating character and was one of the supporters of BJP (when the entire industry was against Modi)

He had the gumption to openly tell LKA on his annual Thuglak meet to announce NaMo as presidential candidate. Modiji continues to have affection towards TN cuz of how well Tn'ites welcomed his candidature, watch this YT video, he speaks in English:

The rapport Cho & Kalaignar shared is something I still look upto. Despite Cho's repeated criticisms, there was a beautiful friendship. I remember seeing photos of Kalaignar attending functions at Cho's place. He even visited him at the hospital. That dignified era is over

MKS coming for Pandey's dad's father condolence was also dignified. Alas, it were hardcore Dstocks who criticized MKS for doing that

It was not about "Kalaignar" prefix. As per TN assembly convention, one can use the name of any CM but the prefix "முன்னாள் முதல்வர்" (former CM or late CM or Mr or Ms or Mrs) is needed while addressing. But there was no need for CM Vijay to apologize.

Could be the case, but this is what papers are stating, CM said sorry generally without stating exact reason. I recall him saying sorry in one previous assembly speech where he mistakenly called MK by his name and then corrected it

Sir, My observation was based on what ex dmk minister Velu said in the assembly that TVK minister should have used "முன்னாள் முதல்வர்"👇

Weird. He is saying name should not be used at all, only Munnaal mudhalvar title should be used. But there are so many ex-CMs which will result in confusion. Their real problem was with not using Kalaignar only I feel

He makes it confusing, deliberately. That's an aspect of diabolical #D cunning which brings out their best in "criminal passion" (copyright term of @realitycheckind) activities.

When Jayalalithaa referred to Mr. Karunanidhi by name alone, without any salutation ( Mr.) despite being younger in age than Kalaignar - that's the moment Kalaignar responded to. Mr. Cho was after all a politician-cum-journalist. His remark was purely satirical.

What Cho spoken in different and what happened in assembly is different. Its traditional and accepted rule to not mention any name. Its only to call as Honourable Minster, Honourable CM, Honourable ex cm, honourable ex minister etc

Vaa Saravanaa Vaa – DMK should be the last party to talk about backstabbing! Let me list the history of backstabbing by your leader, Karunanidhi: - Karunanidhi was never among the top five founding members of the DMK in 1949. No one knows how many he backstabbed to rise to prominence. - After defeating Congress in 1967, Karunanidhi allied with Indira Gandhi’s Congress in 1971, backstabbing his earlier stand. - After Annadurai’s death, Karunanidhi used MGR to become CM in 1969, then expelled and backstabbed him in 1972. - Claiming to be a puritan rationalist, he allied with JP in 1977 after Indira Gandhi dismissed his government for corruption in 1976, hoping to escape the Sarkaria Commission. When it failed, he backstabbed JP and allied with Indira Gandhi again in 1980. - Throughout the 1980s, he took a dubious stand on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, backstabbing Sri Lankan Tamils. - While MGR supported the LTTE for emotional reasons, Karunanidhi exploited the LTTE and backstabbed the Sri Lankan Tamil cause for political gains from 1989 until his death. - Karunanidhi backstabbed and dumped existing allies to align with the brand-new TMC led by Moopanar because he knew it would give him some credibility among voters in 1996. - Karunanidhi backstabbed the same Moopanar by stopping him from becoming the Prime Minister of India in 1996 and 1997. - Karunanidhi suddenly wanted a stable government in 1999 and hence backstabbed his own puritan rationalist stance by aligning with what he had called the ‘Pandaaram and Paradesi party’ (BJP). - Karunanidhi and his party held lucrative portfolios under the BJP government from August 1999 to December 2003, then backstabbed the BJP to join Congress on the eve of the 2004 elections. - After enjoying absolute power from 2004 to 2013, Karunanidhi backstabbed Congress and pulled out of the alliance, anticipating future developments. Around the same time, he sought Congress’s support to get his daughter Kanimozhi elected as an RS MP. - In 2014, he nearly backstabbed his own past by aggressively pursuing an alliance with the BJP. Karunanidhi was the consummate embodiment of backstabbing. See you next time, Saravanaa! Saravanan Annadurai
