When asked if Congress has been briefed on recent cyberattacks on water systems in seven states, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) says “we certainly have not been informed at this time” about the attacks and whether Iran was behind them. “One thing that we have to acknowledge is our adversaries – Russia, China, North Korea, Iran – look at the critical infrastructure that support our civilian infrastructure, like water, are seen as valid military targets by our adversaries. And so, these need to be monitored. They need to be hardened,” he says.

It is our strong belief that telecoms infrastructure must be considered exempt from military campaigns, as it powers critical civilian infrastructure. In the same vein, actors in conflicts must refrain from weaponising telecoms infrastructure. We must distinguish between civilian and military telecoms infrastructure at all times. The request from the GCC Countries on the unprovoked attacks on their civilian telecoms infrastructure highlights this issue as one demanding a strong stance. 🦁🇬🇭

🚨Iran’s🇮🇷 DEVASTATING Capabilities to strike the US🇺🇸: Cyber-attacks, Super EMPs…NUKES? ‘Iran has a number of options to attack the US, both in terms of attacking US forces in the 50 military bases we have in the region, and US carrier strike groups. They have hypersonic missiles which we cannot intercept. If they were proven accurate enough, it’s very likely they could strike a US carrier. Probably they couldn’t sink it, but they could cause it to catch fire and limp away. That would be a tremendous blow to US prestige. Other things they can do: they have tremendous offensive cyber capabilities. They’ve demonstrated capability to take down our water purification distribution system, at least on a regional basis. I would assess that they have the capability to shut down America’s entire critical infrastructure for a period of weeks, perhaps months. And that would be devastating to the US. I don’t think there’s anyone that doubts they have that capability. In terms of nuclear capabilities, I assess that they likely already have nuclear weapons. Whether they have the miniaturisation technology necessary to put them atop missiles is unclear. But I think it’s likely they had a nuclear test in North Korea as recently as 2017. They also may likely have super EMP satellites. Super EMP is a way that Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran could potentially take out all US critical infrastructure at the beginning of a conflict, or even, in the case of Russia or China, before a nuclear first strike against the United States. So those are all devastating capabilities that could potentially kill tens of millions of Americans.
