With father's day coming up, here was Jalen talking about his dad: "Our family relationship is awesome. I know when to decipher when he's being a coach and when he's being a dad. When we're on the court, that's coach. I still call him dad, but he's a coach then. As soon as we get off the court, that's obviously my father. Our relationship is very unique. It's interesting how people perceive that, perceive us. I wouldn't change anything for the world. My dad being a journeyman in the NBA, us living in South Jersey most of my childhood while he played. So get this. My dad, in his synagogue, does something very special for the last few years. He always sits by the entrance to make sure and welcome everyone who comes in. He welcomes them, finds them a prayer book, and walks them to an empty seat. Anyway, my dad’s best friend, Rabbi Yudin, maybe the most righteous person I ever met, has a radio show for many decades. He shares thoughts on the Torah portion. Anyway, this is what he said about my dad this week on the radio. He was talking about the importance of making every person feel seen and special. At the end of the video, you can see my dad and Rabbi Yudin dancing when my dad surprised him and came into the states for a dinner in which Rabbi Yudin was honored. Really special!

As some of you know, my dad passed away last month after a two-year battle with cancer. Right after he was diagnosed in 2023, Shane Beamer sent this to my dad to give him inspiration for the battle ahead. My dad said he would start each week off listening to coach’s words…then would head in to Monday chemo. You never know how some seemingly small gesture can impact someone for the rest of his or her life. So thankful Shane took the time out of his crazy schedule to give my dad a little motivation before the fight of his life. 🙏
