Coaches: stop saying “That won’t work against somebody good”. Why take options off the table in such a creative sport? Allow wrestlers to understand their style and what is high percentage for THEM. Basic skills matter but allow your unconventional wrestlers to be unconventional.

Subtle @NoBickal shout out 🤣

Fundamentals are the skills YOU practice the most, not a recipe of simple movements. I love the message!

Name any move in wrestling & it’s trivial to find examples of how that move being hit on “someone good”. The goal is to learn how, why & where it works. One learns that through experimentation. Good coaching should shorten the process, not prevent it.

Well said Johnni! Well said!

You're right. BUT the age group you say this to matters. This is an advanced message for very advanced wrestlers who have their foundation set already

Agreed

100%, on a program level though I’m showing the high% stuff 90% of the time and honing the fun stuff in some small groups and here and there. Keeping kids after practice etc. I showed way too much fun stuff too often early in my career, too many failed elevators in one match😂

Preach

Agree. Best thing is to teach that every move has a time and a place. it’s dumb to take ANY move off table. I had to learn that hard way with spladle. Tried to do it 2 much and lost sometimes cause of that, but learned and spladled a D1 AA and had about 13-15 college pins with it

Exactly
