Indigo snakes are ophiophagous (snake-eating specialists). Whether the snake is venomous or not, indigos track them down, hunt and eat. They have a high degree of immunity against the venoms of the venomous snakes surrounding them. When they grab a rattlesnake, they use their bulk and strength to pin the venomous snake's head or body almost instantly, preventing or minimizing bites. They often bite just behind the head and then either constrict or simply overpower and swallow the snake while it's immobilized.
