Codec Avatars can run on Quest 3 - the hardware is there. What’s missing is seamless face scanning and built-in eye & face tracking. Quest 4 will likely have eye tracking, and it may support codec avatars, but I really hope the lightweight headset in 2026 will do it first.

This is probably the question I get asked the most, so I'm happy I finally got a chance to make a tutorial on this. This example demonstrates doing it with a Quest Pro using Virtual Desktop, but it should work with any headset. I've also done it with an iPhone and Bigscreen beyon 2e + Vive face tracker Next one I make will show how to do it without any hardware :D . . . . . Please keep in mind this video is intended for people who are already familiar with Unity and avatar creation or editing. This video does not go over troubleshooting face tracking, or teaching Unity basics, only how to test how it looks without needing to upload the avatar

Here are some Paper_Tracker eye-tracking performance tests based on camera images from the Bigscreen Beyond 2e! Because the eye camera angle on the Bigscreen Beyond 2e is not ideal, and our compatibility algorithm for the Beyond 2e is still in an early validation stage, misrecognition, unstable recognition, or inconsistent tracking performance may occur in some cases. Everyone is welcome to download the software, try it out, and test the actual tracking performance. If you run into any issues during use, feel free to give us feedback on Discord. Got the eye rig to work as well I'm really happy how it turned out. I do have a shrinkwrap modifier on the head to help the shape but it can be turned off for more extreme shapes. Next i'll work on some arkit shapes for face tracking.

The new avatars on Apple #VisionPro are undoubtedly the biggest addition. Here is why 👇 The leap in quality when compared to the original persona 1.0 and 1.1 (shown in the video capture around 1 year ago) is just massive and reaches a level of fidelity that can compete with the Codec avatars showcased by Meta. The difference here is that it all happens on a standalone device, with no complicated setup (also shown in the video) and capitalises on a unique feature of the headset, with NO OTHER device coming even close. Co-presence is one of the aspects no one has nailed yet, and this is the biggest leap in that direction.

The day of Parallel Avatars Manifest has come! Sharing some thoughts on them and their place within the Parallel ecosystem… 1. Avatars have immediate utility within the BETA release of the TCG. Matching the Parallel of the Avatar you use to the Parallel of the deck your playing [in ranked matches] will boost $PRIME emissions. Given this, consider if you want one for your favourite Parallel or one for each Parallel to have flexibility in what deck you play. Initial emissions will be set to 11% to ensure all systems are functioning as intended in BETA. 2. Beyond their function in the TCG, Avatars represent a new cornerstone for Parallel as we aspire to more immersive games and story telling. Although we plan to release expansions to the TCG [Planetfall is in development] the Avatars represent our first step towards ‘more ways to play’ and a persistent identity for gamers within the Parallel ecosystem. 3. We are working on finishing full bodies and a migration of Avatars into UE5. This is a process that will take time but ultimately will unlock their potential for use in content and games like Colony. 4. If you do choose to peak at your avatar, Opensea will reflect this so everyone is aware which Parallel the Avatar belongs to. 5. Although there is varying rarity to the Avatars, there are six hand drawn 1/1 Avatars in the collection. One for each Parallel and one mystery. Special recognition is due to the the team that developed these 3D generated Avatars. It was no small task to develop this program and the detail that has gone into it is unmatched.
