Codiff: A beautiful, extremely fast local diff viewer I review SO MUCH code locally these days. I asked Codex to build it using and Thanks amadeus and Jacob. Amazing software. It took 16 minutes to build this. It's amazing.

@amadeus Did you use the new codeview component? @amadeus has a new branch we haven’t landed in main yet - but massive for performance

@amadeus 👀

@amadeus @fat When do you sleep

@amadeus @fat Have to admit it's only been 5 hours on average every day and I haven't done much else but code.

@amadeus @fat I haven't written any code, to be clear.

@amadeus @fat I also built my own local review tool:

@amadeus @fat Nice!

@amadeus @fat have you seen or Was thinking about a GUI like you build with Inline agent / AI annotations. But what I think about more is: let an agent analyze it and come up with a plan to walk me through and give me examples how to test it

@amadeus @fat I’ve used the terminal for code reviews for a long time. It’s great. With the volume of code I’m reviewing, it’s no longer flexible enough. A GUI is better. I want to make a mode where you can use your llm to create the walkthrough for you when you are coding, yes!

@amadeus @fat Next step: submit review comments to your agent :)

@amadeus @fat Local diff viewers are the sleeper category. We do code review on five repos a week and the GitHub UI is just slow. If Codiff handles 10k line diffs without choking it replaces the GitHub tab entirely.

@amadeus @fat very cool

@amadeus @fat Sick! Just built my own too, insane amounts of code to review = better tools needed

@fat Aww man, thanks 🙏! also @SlexAxton is the mad lad behind trees!

@amadeus @fat Built the exact same thing, with exact stack. with one extra feature. us 🫂

@amadeus @fat I’d suggest not showing diff for all files and scroll to a file to view its diff. It’s much better to show diff only for a selected file. This is something that I’d love @zeddotdev should improve also.

@amadeus @fat @zeddotdev Yup it does that now.

@amadeus @fat What's the point of the animation?

@amadeus @fat What animation

@amadeus @fat What do you think, product guy? 💀

@amadeus @fat but why? you will still use GitHub at the end

@amadeus @fat so beautiful

@amadeus @fat 16 minutes is actually insane. i would've spent that just setting up the repo and fighting with go modules

@amadeus @fat Yeah, I thought it would take a few hours at least!

@amadeus @fat local diff viewer is such a good example of using the model for one very specific annoyance. 16 minutes is wild.

@amadeus @fat +1 i feel like everyone is doing their own version of this atm 😆

@amadeus @fat what would be your ideal diff review tool?

@amadeus @fat Mine

@amadeus @fat This is awesome. Have you considered SSH support so it can be used on a remote workspace?

@amadeus @fat I haven't, but you can convince me:

@amadeus @fat btw. 0.2 can be used to review PRs:

@amadeus @fat Cool! Kaleidoscope has always been my go to on Mac but being able to customize it is so valuable these days

@fat @amadeus Amazing!

@amadeus @fat Any plans to support semantic diffs between jsons?

@amadeus @fat If somebody contributes it, maybe.

@schrepfler @amadeus We’re working on it

@cnakazawa @amadeus Loving it!

@amadeus @fat why do ppl keep reinventing diff tools..

@amadeus @fat checkout - I built v0 in like 30min, but turns out there's a ton of features/details that are necessary to go from v0 to something that works really well for lots of use cases

@amadeus @fat Hmm. Lets try reviewing bun rust PR

@amadeus @fat 16 minutes?? that's genuinely insane. I've had a diff tool idea I've been "planning" for like 2 years now. this is embarrassing honestly

@amadeus @fat I believe @amix3k was also busy building one! Maybe you can team up or exchange codebases and see where you can both improve 😉
