“Coding is dead” is like saying farming is dead because tractors were invented.

i find it amusing that people keep saying "everybody can code now" the correct term though, would be: "generate". Everybody with access to ai can generate code now but they still can't code.

I think you are basically a conscious liar and you are sensationalizing for your own benefit.

Right and wrong. AIs make it easier to create software. Most software projects will still require technical skill. The fact that a housewife can get a website up in a few hours does not mean that she could create or Does AI change everything? Yes, in the sense that assemblers changed everything when we were coding in binary, and compilers changed everything when we were coding in assembler. But these advanced did not eliminate the need for technical skill. And neither will AI.

It’s not a pivot, it’s a move to a higher order coding language, English.

Is it me, or whenever I use Codex or Claude Code, I get frustrated 5 times per session on how much problems it creates. Maybe it's a skill issue, but I've been coding for 10+ years and using these tools since they started. They do have great uses cases (reviews, ideas, prototypes, searching documentation, etc.) but in my personal experience they create so much trash and liability in code, incorrect states, junior level solutions that might work but are technically poorly written, and much more. The more time I spend in this X echo chamber, the more it seems to me that the narrative is pushed by people who are either not great programmers, not programmers at all but felt the initial excitement of building something useless like landing page or some AI company employees/CEOs. Weird times nonetheless.

dude, if they had 100% AI workflows without human intervention, they would have already launched something better than claude. Zuck would have done it by now... AI coding is everywhere but its still produce mediocre results

This guy is pretty clueless. Yes, it's the DEVELOPERS using the AI. Think about when the chainsaw was invented. It didn't make it so librarians could cut down trees. It's still the same people who need to understand what's going on, now they just do more.

You still need to review what the AI generates and that requires a coding “skill”. You have no way of knowing when the context starts rotting. Maybe hard code “writing” as a skill may be dead. But code reading is still necessary if you don’t want your airplanes to fall off the sky

Back in the day, people climbed into computers and hand wired pathways to do a program run. That coding skill was rendered obsolete. Coding didn’t die then. AI is rendering a style of code development obsolete, just like several other developments before, not coding itself.

i asked @grok about your takes. here’s what i got back This is a textbook example of an unqualified hype-man overreaching for clicks. The video (3:28 long, posted ~12 hours ago as of this writing) is Corbin Braun walking around the Bay Area waterfront, squinting into the sun, and ranting that “coding is dead in SF.” He frames it as insider perspective from “conversations behind closed doors” in the tech scene. It’s pure sensationalism: zero data, zero sources, just vibes and anecdotes from a guy whose entire career is small-scale indie products. Here’s the ruthless, point-by-point takedown (timestamps from the video): - 0:00–0:25— “To put it simply, coding is dead… All their engineers right now only use AI… tested on whether or not they use AI in their workflow 100% AI coded.” Flat-out false. No major company (Meta, Google, etc.) has a policy of “100% AI, zero human intervention” from branch → PR → prod. AI tools (Cursor, Claude, etc.) are accelerators, not autonomous replacements. Senior engineers still own architecture, edge cases, security, observability, and incident response. He has never worked at Meta/Google (or anywhere close) — his résumé shows only self-taught indie work and a hardware side hustle. He’s repeating Twitter memes as if they’re boardroom policy. - 0:30–1:05— Claims Meta/Cursor run full AI pipelines with “little to no human intervention” on branches/PRs/merges. Calls this a “massive pivot” that’s been real “since October” with parallel agents. Wrong and sloppy. Cursor is an IDE, not a company equivalent to Meta. Real production systems at that scale have rigorous human review gates for a reason (see every major outage caused by unchecked automation). He’s describing a hypothetical future as current reality. Again: zero experience in these codebases. - 1:17–1:40— Drops his “Shenzhen manufacturing” story as analogy for how SF is 2–3 years behind on AI. Irrelevant flex. His only non-software role was running a tiny aromatherapy hardware startup (LUU, 2018–2021). That’s not “manufacturing in Shenzhen” at scale — it’s a founder shipping a consumer gadget. It gives him no special insight into software engineering pipelines. 1:50–2:14— “I have friends who’ve never coded in their entire life… launching a landing page within three hours.” Claims “the actual action of typing code… majority of it’s a dead skill.” Technically true for the lowest bar, but deliberately misleading. Yes, AI makes simple static sites or CRUD apps trivial. That has been true since no-code tools existed years ago. It does **not** mean “coding is dead” for anything non-trivial: distributed systems, real-time infra, ML training, compliance, or anything Meta/Google actually pays L5+ engineers to do. He’s conflating “anyone can ship a landing page” with “anyone can replace senior engineers.” - 2:32–3:28— Predicts that in 3–5 years half of YC batches will be non-technical because “anyone can create software, apps, video games.” Calls it a “competitive advantage” that the market hasn’t realized yet. Pure speculation from someone who has never shipped at YC scale. Current AI agents still hallucinate, rot context, and fail on novel problems. His own products (Thumio, Bumpups, TechSnif) are small AI wrappers built with off-the-shelf models — exactly the kind of thing that works until it hits real complexity. He’s selling the dream while his résumé proves he’s never operated at the level he’s critiquing. Bottom line: This is not analysis — it’s engagement farming. He’s a legitimate indie builder who ships cute little tools and grows an audience by being very online. But he has **zero professional experience** in the large-scale engineering environments he’s lecturing about. Claiming “coding is dead” while your entire career is vibe-coding small consumer apps is peak Dunning-Kruger. The replies to the post (already 134+ and counting) are correctly roasting him for exactly this. He’s not “ahead of the curve”

no dude you’re wrong. Coding is not dead and AI is a tool and advanced coding and software engineer. Put it this way would you rather hammer the nail or tap a button and the nail is hammered in less half the time.

the vibe coding debate is missing the point - it's not about whether ai can write code, it's about whether you can debug what it wrote when things break at 2am. that's the real divide.

It is not all black and white. Everyone can code? That is a hard statement. Put this into perspective. I have never done a surgery in my life. But AI can tell me how to do it. I can vibe the surgery out. Imagine what that would look like? That is basically vibe coding.

I use Claude and it's amazing. But it makes many mistakes and still very much needs a real 'coder' directing it or it quickly produces rot. That might not be true for long, but if you can't code, it's going to be very hard to build something valuable and stable.

I love when people with no technical ability try to explain AI to me “EnGiNeErs At MeTa DoNt WrItE cOdE aNyMoRe!” I haven’t written a line of code since November. That’s why it’s clear you don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re 4 months late with your recycled analysis.

Nah bro, as a senior dev, seeing the absolute spaghetti covered with dog shit code it generates, coding is FAR from dead. They all do the same... Replace devs with AI and then have massive service outages and then re-hire people.

I work for a SF startup and I can confirm the push is to do 100% with AI, not only coding, but also reviewing, writing tasks, writing docs, writing comments, basicslly anything you do. Many people don't even type their Slack messages just generate answers with Claude. It's real.

Wdym dead? Peeps are coding more than ever before with AI. I don’t understand this lens. Do you mean traditional way of doing software task is dead? Who cares? We learned a better way to code and it’s been adopted. I love it. Coding is more alive than ever before. People who never try to code are now trying!
