My niece used this tactic on me raising for her mission trip “it’s ok if you guys can’t afford it right now we can take less this year”. Instant 150% over last year.

Its even better if you say it in front of their wife or friend. It really bruises their ego.

If you don't want repeat customers, this is how you treat them XD I work with contractors in various fields all the time. I've had timing issues with my bank before, and explained the issue clearly, and told them when they could expect it. Then I followed through. And added a tip on the side to make up for the inconvenience. I've also had contractors where "No, this isn't want I ordered. I need you to redo it." And know what? They'll do it. Having the "Work product" and the "Payment" discussions should be separate discussions. They should both be clear and happening about the same time, but they should be separate issues. If you have a client who is mixing them? This might work. Once. But if its the first time? You likely won't get a second bite at the apple.

This is called Reverse selling. They will argue against themselves and argue for you. Assumptive statements (close). Money and courage are ones people argue against to make your case. I don't do this trick unless it's absolutely needed.

I've been lending money for 50 years. This person is not wrong, but I'm going to tell you what has been proven to work. This has never failed me (amazes me too) Put people on a payment plan that is automatic, find a small enough number, and offer a fair percentage (10%).
