This is Chris Konawel talking about how bad things are getting in Gloucester County with the folks running unchecked Here is his statement from FB: "I have decided to file a lawsuit against Gloucester County and the Board of Commissioners for allegedly violating my rights as your elected official. For too long, Gloucester County has run unchecked and has done whatever it wants to residents, employees, and even elected officials. After the events of the January 2nd, 2026 Reorganization Meeting — where I, as a duly elected County Commissioner, was precluded from doing my job and not allowed to ask questions on the resolutions in front of me — enough is enough. Let’s start with this: The County decided its elected officials didn’t deserve to receive information on what we were voting on until just hours before the meeting. We’re talking millions of dollars in contracts, dozens of appointments that affect every resident in this county, and the hiring of a new County Administrator. An administrator making more than any Governor in the country — more than the VICE PRESIDENT of the United States. And we were told we couldn’t ask questions. Several members of the public came to speak and were told they could not. Public comment was avoided. The unelected County Counsel rammed the meeting through — and by the way, his own contract had expired and was on that very agenda. It is my job as your elected official to ask questions that will affect this county for years. My job is not to sit idly by and allow things to be shoved through to the detriment of the people I represent. Because of this, I filed a lawsuit alleging violations of the Open Public Meetings Act. I am doing this pro se — on my own. With no college degree or experience. I had attorneys willing to take the case, but I felt the County shouldn’t be charged thousands more because of this nonsense. I am not seeking monetary relief. I’m not even asking for my $350 filing fee back. I’m doing this because residents deserve better. Think about this: In the five years I’ve been on this board, there has not been a single “no” vote by anyone other than myself and Commissioner Nick DeSilvio. No debate. No discussion. Just rubber stamping. Those of you who are married — and love your spouse — ask yourself this: Have you gone five years without a single disagreement? How can five elected officials not have one disagreement in five years? We all know the answer — and it’s not good. And instead of defending his own actions, the County Counsel — who makes well into six figures — could not defend himself against me, a high school graduate with no legal training. So the County hired one of the most expensive political attorneys in the state to justify what happened. Think about that. That’s like trying to kill a fly with a shotgun — but I guess it’s easy when it’s not your money. All I’m asking the Court to do is declare the meeting improper and order that it be conducted properly — with questions and public comment — because residents deserve transparency. Court is this Friday, February 13th I ask all of you: share this. Let residents know what is happening behind the scenes. Let’s take our government back to the people — where it belongs. I promised you I would always fight for you and for what’s right. This is another step in that direction. Below is the link to the YouTube video so you can see for yourself. According to the Saline Courier, a "split" has been forming in the Saline County GOP over one group of people wanting to switch to paper ballots. "Tonight while I was at the Saline County Republican Committee Meeting a physical altercation happened between two individuals. This should have never happened regardless of their dislike for each other. I don’t support or condone any kind of violence or intimidation," Republican Saline County Justice of the Peace Justin Rue said. "For months the Saline County Republican Committee has had terrible and weak leadership that has been divisive in the community and our party. It’s time for common sense conservative values to return to Saline County."

Voters in Pierce County will have to decide whether they want to continue with their sheriff or turn the power over to the county executive to appoint one. It's a small change with significant consequences that could lead to the removal of embattled Sheriff Keith Swank at the end of the year. On Monday, the 21-member Pierce County Charter Review Commission voted to place the proposal on the November ballot. If approved, the Pierce County executive would appoint the sheriff, subject to confirmation by the Pierce County Council. Swank, who is known for his controversial statements about immigration enforcement and transgender issues, says he plans to campaign against the ballot measure. MORE:

$115 Million short for flood control - this year. Under the leadership of our County Administrator, who pockets over $400k per year in salary, we have once again discovered that we are short hundreds of millions of dollars to complete flood control projects. When this position was suggested by the County Judge and others, our first County Administrator said this about why the position was needed: "..And when you look at problems like flooding and public health, these are problems that are pretty hard to tackle when you have 20 different county departments reporting up to five different people — which can become a pretty unwieldy structure. So, I think Judge Lina Hidalgo and other members of commissioners court felt some urgency to formalize the role of the budget office that had been longstanding and to modernize the organizational structure." The problems seem to be getting worse since then, not better.

Mandera water crisis: Sh Abdirashid's emotional khutbah in Elwak yesterday on the severe water crisis in Mandera county. Very painful situation in several parts of the county. The county leadership accused by the Sheikh of wasting public resources on political tours when people are suffering. Urges all wellwishers to assist in the crisis. The weeping Sheikh stopped short of cursing the county leadership for neglecting the residents. I suggest the County Assembly convenes urgently to reallocate funding to address the water crisis. Water bowsers hired by the county also reportedly charging the poor residents, according to the Sheikh. The County administration should use the enforcement officers to ensure this practice is stopped.

"As the County Executive of Wicomico County, I have never sent inappropriate photographs to a deputy, county employee, or to anyone else. I never have. I never would. Period," Giordano said. Video was provided to Spotlight on Maryland by Mike Goldberg, producer for 'Open Agenda,' which airs on Wicomico County's PAC 14 channel. The press conference lasted only six minutes, with no questions.

In Bay county, the county commission will be adopting a resolution to collaborate with Florida DOGE and review finances. Thanks to Bay County, FL for leading by example.

Last night the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Flock Safety for drones to respond to police service calls. There was immense public backlash over this decision, but before the board could hear the public’s grievances, they removed the first public comment period. This only left one public comment at the end AFTER votes had taken place. Commissioner Powell made the motion to remove the public comment and Chair Woodward refused to do a roll call vote to confirm there was a sufficient number of votes for this change. Originally the Flock contract was for a free trial period until December and the county would be charged 2.5 million for two years if they did not opt out. This item received less than three minutes of consideration in committee and the sheriff’s office assured commissioners that the public’s data would be protected. However, that was no where in Flock’s contract. Commissioner Bob Hoffman offered an amendment to the item to only allow for the trial period without an automatic renewal, ensuring the data is owned by Oakland County Sheriff and not Flock, and the drones can only be used for calls for service or officer generated. The amendment was approved and the pilot contract was approved. This resulted in outbursts throughout the meeting and eventually a 3.5 hour public comment period at the end. Residents often spoke of the invasion of privacy, concerns about hacking the Flock system, and fear of constant surveillance. The meeting started 45 minutes late and lasted to almost midnight.
