Pressure is growing on the UK government to change controversial legislation that means some violent offenders will be released from jail earlier than expected. The Sentencing Act, which came into force this year, allows some offenders to leave jail after serving just a third of their sentences and others just half of theirs. The government says it has to tackle overcrowding in prisons in England and Wales. We spoke to a group of survivors about the risks they say will come with the changes and the huge impact this is going to have on them and the wider community.

It has been made worse by the fact that two vital free speech protections have still not been implemented — even though the Act became law three years ago. More than 50 peers — including three former Cabinet Ministers — have signed a letter from the Free Speech Union’s General Secretary, Lord Young, to the Technology Secretary, Liz Kendall, calling on her to implement these protections. A digital 'key' (not ID). Better online services. A world in which nobody loses a library card again. le sserafim having a song called “pearlies (my oyster is the world)” which will be dedicated to fearnots & has yunjin credited on reminded me of her speech in incheon. she talked about how clams have to go through pain in order of pearls to be formed. only after the hardships, a pearl would come to them, which is why she has the strong determination to protect fearnots even more from there on. so, from the world being their oyster in the beginning, it now turned into their oyster being the world. we represent their pearls that were there during the hardships, the only ones that protected them the past year & the ones they love enough to work hard on protecting.

Platner: I think Collins has tried to create this charade in which she’s always the moderate voice in the room. But that’s nonsense, and everybody knows it’s nonsense. The recent budget bill is the most glaring example. She allowed it to move onto the floor. She did nothing — used none of her power to slow it down or force a more public conversation about it. And then, when it was on the floor, she voted against it. That way she can come back to Maine and say, “See, I was against it.” But she wasn’t against it. If she had been, she would have shut it down or at least slowed it down. She did none of that. Susan Collins does not represent the interests of working Mainers

Rosie wasn’t surprised that Liz decided to walk away from #RHORI. Rosie says part of being on a show like The Real Housewives is knowing who you are and having the self-awareness to recognize how you come across.
