I watched that Wall Street week episode in 1987. It was a Friday night show and the lows were made on Monday. Louis Rukeyser was great.

I miss those days. RIP Louis. This recent sell off is chump change compared to so many I’ve seen.

The 1987 stock market crash, also known as Black Monday, occurred on October 19, 1987. It was a global, severe, and largely unexpected stock market crash that saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fall by 22.6% in a single trading session. This event marked the beginning of a global stock market decline, and it remains one of the most notorious days in financial history. The crash was not attributed to any single news event, as no major news event was released the weekend preceding the crash. Instead, it was a combination of geopolitical events and the advent of computerized program trading that accelerated the selloff. The crash was also influenced by a strong bull market that was overdue for a major correction in prices since 1982. The effects of the crash were felt globally, with worldwide losses estimated at US$1.71 trillion. While the crash did not lead to a recession, it did have a significant impact on investor confidence and the financial markets.

You know it was bad when they needed to pay someone to tell you it’s not that bad.
