The ref's job is to know and enforce the rules. Nobody will know the rules like s/he does. Players, coaches, spectators, commentators, whoever. I find it whimsical that ppl who have a passing knowledge of the rules, question those whose job it is to study and know those rules!

i’ve said it for years, the rules knowledge of tv and radio commentators is shocking. They understand the game but never know the actual rules and it’s highly unlikely they ever will.
