GHMC Special Monsoon Drive: 11 to 21 Aug As part of the ongoing Special Monsoon Drive across Hyderabad, GHMC is carrying out intensive civic, sanitation, monsoon preparedness, public health and awareness activities across the city. The drive focuses on improving sanitation, clearing waterlogging points, strengthening public health measures and creating awareness among citizens. Key highlights: GHMC teams removed 40.30 MT of legacy MSW and 15.80 MT of C&D waste. As part of monsoon preparedness, 109 potholes were filled, 161 catch pits cleaned and 9 culverts cleared, while 7.3 MT of floating material and silt was removed. Rainwater harvesting & civic amenities: 10 rainwater harvesting structures were initiated, 5 non-residential buildings were surveyed, 8 public toilets were inspected and 56 commercial bins were installed at shops to improve waste management. Awareness & training: 5 BWG awareness meetings and 4 BWG registrations were conducted. IEC and training sessions covered 12 schools with 719 participants. Public health & veterinary activities: 507 IEC activities were undertaken, pyrethrum spraying was carried out at 324 locations, and stray-dog vaccination and shelter-transfer measures were undertaken. Social welfare & parks: 365 Indiramma sarees were distributed. 10 SHG women awareness camps were conducted with 37 participants. GHMC also lifted 18.9 MT of pruned tree branches and 5.4 MT of dry/green waste from 29 parks. Coordination Meeting Between Police and GHMC on Monsoon Preparedness Advance measures to prevent inconvenience to city residents Keeping the upcoming monsoon season in view, the Police and GHMC departments have decided to work in coordination to take preventive measures so that citizens do not face any inconvenience. A convergence coordination meeting was held on Thursday at the Old Police Commissionerate Office in Basheerbagh under the leadership of Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar, IPS, and GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan, IAS. During the meeting, officials discussed several key issues and gave clear directions to field-level staff. They instructed that desilting of drainage systems and repair of pipelines should begin immediately on a war footing, rather than waiting for the rains to start. Officials also emphasized that work should begin immediately at the top 10 identified waterlogging points in the city to provide permanent solutions. They further directed that all open manholes must be securely covered to prevent any threat to public safety. It was noted that a proper plan should be prepared and implemented to remove encroachments on footpaths for the convenience of pedestrians. Authorities were also instructed to ensure that streetlights function properly at night for public safety and to install new lights wherever necessary. To prevent road accidents, engineering defects on roads should be rectified. Continuous measures should also be taken to avoid traffic congestion near ongoing flyover and underpass construction sites. GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan stated: Ensuring that there is no loss of life or property during the monsoon is the primary responsibility of officials. GHMC will work closely with the police department to further improve urban infrastructure, with special focus on road maintenance and city beautification. In this regard, he has also informed that dedicated budget of Rs. 25 Crores per each Zone (Total - Rs. 150 Crores) shall be allocated exclusively for traffic improvement-related works. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar added: Such convergence meetings between departments help resolve ground-level issues more quickly. He stressed that top priority should be given to traffic regulation and pedestrian safety. 📋 Zonal Review Meeting Held in Kukatpally Zone The Commissioner, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, along with the Zonal Commissioner, Kukatpally Zone, and Deputy Commissioners of all Circles, conducted a zonal-level review meeting to assess civic services, grievance redressal, sanitation management, and developmental activities across the zone.
