Trita Parsi has been studying Iranian politics for over 25 years, and I was surprised to see how optimistic he was about this MOU between Trump and Iran! He got me excited tbh. He explained why 'this time is different', and we may actually end up with a better deal than Obama's JCPOA, in terms of not having it ripped up by a future administration for political purposes 1.⁠ ⁠Trump's recent comments, praising the Iranian regime, advocating for them to have missiles, and being open to doing business with them, essentially shut down the arguments made by pro-war advocates who claim the Iranian regime cannot be reasoned with 2.⁠ ⁠The Gulf, who play a big role in this new framework, will help ensure the peace negotiations for a long term deal are not sabotaged 3.⁠ ⁠Iran's military win has now established a new reality, where the only soltuion to the 'Iran problem' is diplomacy. The U.S. tried war, and it failed miserably 4.⁠ ⁠And most importantly, the sentiment in the U.S. is shifting against 'Israel-First' policies Blending all these factors made Trita possibly more optimistic than he was even after the JCPOA, and that says a lot! The final scene in The Godfather Part II, with the family gathered around the dinner table, was originally going to include Marlon Brando, but he pulled out at the very last minute. Coppola had to rewrite a whole new ending the night before the shoot. He explains: “It’s a very interesting story, because I had written this scene that we go back to, around the period just before the first Godfather, when they were all young… My idea was that they would come together, finally, at the end, as a family. And the end of the movie would be a big, beautiful scene with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, sort of summing up the whole saga that had gone down. And I was negotiating with Marlon Brando right up to the last minute saying, “Marlon, please, just one day. We’ll give you this money.” But Marlon was so mad at Paramount - for ultimately not paying him any money on the first picture, or whatever he was mad about - And although I didn’t know it until the last day, ultimately, it wasn’t going to be possible to have him in the picture. So I went to bed that night really worried. I had lost the end of my movie. I had to shoot it the next day. I had no idea what to do. I was sleeping in the Chateau Marmont Hotel. I had this scene. I had paid all this money to get Jimmy Caan to come back and some of the other actors to be in the last scene. And in the middle of the night, I just had this idea. And I wrote it - which is that they were all gathered for a surprise birthday party for the Don. And so after this scene plays out, in which Michael’s decision to join the Marines is kind of examined relative to really what all we know is going to happen, and what this young, beautiful, collegiate man who’s a war hero, who goes straight, is going to end up to be: this man without a heart, who’s killed his own brother and alienated his wife… And I thought there could be one beautiful scene with him and Don Corleone as we remember him from the first movie. Since Marlon didn’t come, I made it the surprise party, and I built it up to the point where they all said, “Oh, he’s here. He’s here.” And they all run out of the room. And as you’re waiting for Marlon to come into the room, you just stay on Al… And I came up with the solution at, like - three in the morning. And the next day they said, “Well, Marlon’s not coming.” And I said, “That’s all right. I’ve got a scene we can do without him.” And it was this one. Also, I like that staging kind of, especially about families who ultimately dissolve in front of your eyes, the idea that you have a table full of people. And one by one, someone argues or someone goes off, and then you’re just left with one … And everything else now is just sound. The father comes, and you know he’s there, and you feel he’s there, but you’re left with Michael alone.” This quote comes from the director's commentary track off the Godfather Part II Blu-ray

Jordan Peterson on what to do when you don't know what you want from life: 1. Don't start with the big goal. you won't find it by staring at the horizon. look around you instead, at your direct sphere of influence, and fix the things that are obviously in need of repair. they're usually small. 2. clean your room. i know it turned into a joke online. it's harder than people think, and more useful too. the point isn't the tidy room. the point is you learn to tell chaos from order, and to act in a way that produces order. 3. ask yourself, don't tell yourself. instead of "do this," ask "what could i do today that i'd actually do, that makes tomorrow a little better than today?" it's usually some small thing, because you're not that disciplined. that's fine. 4. it'll be the toad. the thing you keep avoiding. the task that feels like a snake. that's the one. do it anyway. 5. then it compounds. you fix one thing, you get a bit stronger, the next day you take on something slightly bigger. compound interest. and at some point you stop just patching what's broken, and you catch a glimmer of something positive you could build. that's your vision. it shows up at the end, not the start.

We’ve seen a lot of dogs in bad conditions but I think this lovely boy might be the worst pain I’ve ever seen a dog in. We’d been told about him by a kind man in the community who found him but had no idea how to help beyond giving him water, food and putting a little electric fan on him. He eventually got through to us in sheer desperation. The dog has been there for days apparently and probably hit by some sort of major trauma. He hasn’t eaten or drank his water and he was laying in his own pee and poop. That little alley way was where it was all going to end very soon because I could see from his gums and other signs he was in big big trouble. We had to just go for it and make a stretcher with what we had and push through the pain. It took us 40 minutes to get back to Tina’s hospital and he screamed at every tiny bump on the road. I thought his spine was broken and was super relieved when it wasn’t. I thought he might be so bad that we’d never be posting this video as it might be better to put him out of his misery. He is very sick and has some stuff going on internally but it is pelvis related we believe. He is by no means 100% going to make it as he has so much going on inside him but we have some hope now. The team are in full action mode to try and save him. I called him Bear as he is a big fluffy gentle giant I can tell. I’m not sure how this story ends but it’s already better than he was alone in that alley this morning. He’s having a huge sleep now with lots of pain relief and meds. 🤞🤞🤞

“Nobody was open” Caleb Williams had a throwing window to TE #84 Colston Loveland in the back of the end zone. Williams was looking right at him. Williams cocked his arm, but hesitated and “thought better of it.” Plus, he had a backside target #2 D.J. Moore in the end zone jumping around wide open on the opposite side of the field, but Williams never has seen the whole field well… Of course, nobody will focus on how the moment was too big for him and how he hesitated instead of taking the shot with the No. 1 seed in the NFC hanging in the balance. Instead, they’ll just make more excuses for him. Too harsh? No, I don’t believe it is. Some athletes want the ball in their hand in the biggest moment of their careers, and others do not. The problem with Williams is that he wanted to keep the ball in his hand, once again, way too long. I got 8.11 seconds when I put a stopwatch to it. That might be the longest he’s ever held it. It’s the longest I’ve ever seen him hold it and I studied every snap he ever took at USC and have watched many of his games with the Bears since. Ben Johnson has done a GREAT job hiding Williams behind the No. 3 rushing attack in the NFL (149.1 yards per game Team Rankings) and with YAC receivers who have accounted for about half of his “passing yardage” this season, but in the end, who players really are comes out in the big moments. In the end, the overwhelming urge for Williams to play hero ball again and do something more than just take what was there cost him and his team. “Nobody was open” Caleb Williams had a throwing window to TE #84 Colston Loveland in the back of the end zone. Williams was looking right at him. Williams cocked his arm, but hesitated and “thought better of it.” Plus, he had a backside target #2 D.J. Moore in the end zone jumping around wide open on the opposite side of the field, but Williams never has seen the whole field well… Of course, nobody will focus on how the moment was too big for him and how he hesitated instead of taking the shot with the No. 1 seed in the NFC hanging in the balance. It’s the longest I’ve ever seen him hold it and I studied every snap he ever took at USC and have watched many of his games with the Bears since. Ben Johnson has done a GREAT job hiding Williams behind the No. 3 rushing attack in the NFL (149.1 yards per game Team Rankings) and with YAC receivers who have accounted for about half of his “passing yardage” this season, but in the end, who players really are comes out in the big moments. In the end, the overwhelming urge for Williams to play hero ball again and do something more than just take what was there cost him and his team. #TicketToHeaven #GeminiFourth #เจมีไนน์โฟร์ท 💭: since you’ve previously worked with GeminiFourth in Moonlight Chicken was there any moment when you felt, “hooo they’ve really grown a lot as actors..” Phi Aof: the first clear thing we see in the change is the maturity of both of them, in responsibility and in being actors. its clearly visible that they’ve gone through many different experiences working in the industry. even tho its only around two years, they came back in a more grown up form, a more understanding form and are more sensitive overall in how they approach this work. what feels different and clearly grown up is their way of thinking about acting. the characters has very high stakes in taking on such risky and challenging roles and the characters background is very heavy. the audience will likely already have seen how much the characters has to go through and how intense it is. it requires drawing from personal life experience or imagination and investing emotional energy into this series quite a lot. but both of them are very ready to jump into those situations and enjoy it. that is clearly the growth we see (🥹👏🏻) : and what remains consistent is that working with Fourth is very fun bc he’s the type of person who says “i understand phi. i dont understand phi. what is this? i cant find it, i cant think of it, please explain phi.” it becomes very fun bc there’s internal debate in his head like “why am i thinking this?” we slowly help each other find the answer in each scene. after acting, we check “is it okay? i think its like this. what do you think Fourth?” : In the scene at the end of EP2 where the character walks into the bathroom, we talk with Fourth about what Fourth thinks is going on. what Fourth is thinking. Fourth doesnt need to tell me either bc only Fourth knows what will happen in that bathroom. so we let Fourth interpret it by himself. its up to Fourth. from my point of view, i see it one way, but Fourth as Tanrak, Fourth knows the character better than me, so Fourth might think in another way as well (😭👏🏻)

John Mayer is a master of his craft. He’s also one of the best I’ve come across at using analogy and demonstration to articulate and demystify the creative process. Maldivians always complain about inefficient and incompetent govs, esp Muizzu’s, but rarely stop to ask why this keeps happening. Take a look at this UK Cabinet meeting. The woman in red sitting right next to PM is Dame Antonia Romeo, the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service (the highest civil servant in the country). You can see her non stop taking notes and listening carefully to every word being discussed. What we’re seeing is the highest civil servant in the country sitting right next to the head of gov. (Also our cabinet ministers sit one foot away from each other around a massive table where the President can barely see their faces or hear what they’re saying properly😂). She doesn’t change when a new PM comes in, she stays in the job, bringing continuity and institutional memory. Her role is to advise the PM and Cabinet, coordinate across all gov departments, enforce fiscal discipline, record decisions properly, chase up actions and make sure ministers actually deliver. She also acts as a key reality check for the PM. By coordinating directly with different ministries at speed, she advises him on what is realistic and deliverable given the timeframes, without the PM having to call officials one by one every time. It’s not the politicians who know best what human resources and capacity the gov has, it’s the head of civil service. In UK’s case, Antonia, the head of civil service, has 25 years of work experience, worked in many gov ministers and abroad (gov job). In Maldives, it’s the incompetent President of Civil Service Commission who’s on a 5 year term who leads civil service. It’s so messed up. Our Cabinet Secretary (political and inexperienced) changes with every new president and the current one, Habeeb, doesn’t sit in cabinet meetings taking notes or coordinating anything. The result is scattered policies, no proper follow through and a gov that feels constantly messy and ineffective. This lack of a stable professional backbone is exactly why we struggle so much. If the highest civil servant in the country doesn’t even know what the head of gov wants, how can the civil service deliver anything meaningful and efficient? What better way is there for the head of the civil service to understand the gravity and importance of what the gov wants than by sitting right next to the head of gov in every cabinet meeting? A big administrative change and major civil service reform is needed in Maldives. The current boomer led Civil Service Commission won’t cut it.

Somalis need to speak up and push back against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s corrupted government, which seems to be letting this happen. The $250,000 ETH Productive Money Price Target Explained "You just have to look at the monetary premium that currently exists in gold and Bitcoin. If ETH is better money than gold and Bitcoin, it should capture the monetary premium of those two assets. Today gold has a market cap of ~$30 trillion and Bitcoin has a market cap of ~$1.5 trillion. If you divide that by 121 million ETH, you get a price somewhere between $250,000 and $300,000." Michael McGuiness continues: "I view Bitcoin and gold as the rough TAMs for scarce assets without counterparty risk. That's what gold is and that's what Bitcoin is... and I actually think that could end up being low because it doesn't include other TAMs like the broader money supply -- M2 is ~$22 trillion. There's a monetary premium in asset classes like luxury real estate -- you're not buying an apartment in NYC for the cap rate; it's more of a store of value. If the world converged on ETH as its store of value, it might win that monetary premium as well." Vivek Raman adds: "It sounds audacious but Ethereum is audacious. It's a new technology and people need to start thinking in exponentials... Institutional investors are starting to realize too that it's not just a discounted cash flow model -- Ethereum is not a software company. It's going for money. The repricing from an asset that's not well-understood yet to a productive money that's the global reserve asset is not something that's going to stop at a 10x... And that's what the opportunity is. There aren't many assets out there that have an intrinsic value floor with actual fundamental value plus a monetary premium -- and you have the ability to capture the growth of an entire network that's kind of like owning a piece of the Internet early on. That's what ETH is. It's one of the greatest assets I've ever seen." Mike adds: "I know the number can sound crazy on the surface, but one sanity check I like to do is: there's ~60 million millionaires and there's ~121 million ETH. If every millionaire globally tried to buy some ETH, they'd each be able to own ~2. Obviously there are people out there who own a lot more than 2 ETH, so it'd be less than that. So that's another way of thinking about these few-hundred-thousand-dollar price targets. I used to think about Bitcoin the same way. It's just a nice sanity check: If this is the global reserve asset and the world converges on it, and everyone tries to buy it, how much is left to go around?"
