ABC News investigated and found more than 3,000 data centers are already operating nationwide At least 1,000 more planned Residents near data centers are seeing much as 50%+ increases on their electric bills “ABC7 has also been covering public meetings over proposed data centers and there are questions about water use and the environment. The i-team in ABC News studied this private company's data center map and found that there are at least 4,302 data center projects across the U.S. Large and small. Of those, 3,038 are currently operational with another 1,203 either under construction or plan for construction. 61 have acquired land. In Illinois, there are 164 operating data centers with another 81 planned for construction. The largest state project plan is in Yorkville. It would be 2 gigawatts and according to the ABC7 data team would use the same energy that would power approximately 1.7 million homes more than every home in the city of Chicago.”

This is a boat ramp that has not seen water for years” Cheyenne Wyoming is about 20 miles away and Meta, Microsoft, and other major companies have Data Centers facilities or expansions There are 8 more planned projects statewide adding significant water and electricity usage Now there aren’t any data centers I couldn’t find by Crooked Creek so it’s mainly drought and low rainfall here, but the entire surrounding area is in a drought. Not a good time to keep adding data centers

Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources. But despite its large 6,300+ acre footprint, it doesn’t provide enough power for one large data center complex in Loudoun County. Loudoun County has more than 200 data centers, and Virginia has more than 600 data centers. More data centers are on the way.

Nearby AI data centers are consuming massive amounts of water to keep their systems cool. Meta’s Los Lunas facility alone has reportedly been tied to roughly 75 million gallons of water usage per year connected to Rio Grande resources and it’s only ONE of many projects expanding across the state. People can argue over the exact numbers, but one thing is undeniable… these facilities require enormous amounts of water and there are more data centers across the country being built as we speak. This is starting to look like an environmental disaster in plain sight. We need to put pressure on local representatives and the President to examine this environmental crisis before it’s too late.

China is our adversary. They are building more power than we are, and then using it to power data centers to advance both economic interests and of course military as well. We can’t let the Chinese beat us in AI. We’ve gotta build more data centers, we’ve gotta build more power. We’ve got a lot ahead of us here because they’re beating us on this.
