[ONE KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED BY A MOB IN A STOCKTHEFT RELATED INCIDENT] Police at Verena are investigating a stock theft related incident whereby two male persons were reportedly cornered and assaulted by an unidentified group of people after being reportedly found with livestock believed to have been stolen. One of the alleged suspects died whilst the other one sustained some injuries. The incident occurred in Verena on Wednesday, 24 December 2024. According to a report, Police as well Medical Emergency Services were called to the scene, and it was during this period when one of the men was pronounced dead, while the other was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is currently hospitalized under Police guard. The incident is believed to be linked to stocktheft incident, where 26 cattle, six goats, and a donkey were reportedly stolen from a certain farm in Verena. The Police investigation indicates that a shepherd was attacked earlier that day then robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. Thereafter, the suspects are believed to have fled the scene in two bakkies with trailers when their vehicles got stuck in the mud, leading to their capture and attack by the mob. Two bakkies were also torched during the incident.

Man Arrested After Knife Incident, Bradford College A man has been arrested following an incident near Bradford College this morning. Reports were received from 9.21am of a man armed with what appeared to be a knife on Great Horton Road. He was detained by college security staff and arrested by attending officers. A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two members of the public and assaulting two emergency workers. He was also arrested for a racially-aggravated public order offence and causing damage to a police vehicle. The two injured members of the public have been taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. A small gardening tool was seized by police at the scene. Detective Inspector Ailis Coates said: “We know that this incident will understandably cause some concern in the community. I would like to reassure people that the suspect was quickly detained by security staff and arrested by the police. “We understand that this incident has been witnessed by a large number of people and that some people may have filmed bits of it. After passing them, the van allegedly performed a U-turn and began heading back toward them. Believing they may have been targeted, the girls turned around and ran in the opposite direction. The parent alleges there were approximately five to six adult East Indian men inside the vehicle, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old. Due to the fear and panic of the situation, the girls were unable to provide detailed descriptions of the occupants or clearly identify what was being yelled at them. The submission states the van turned around multiple times and continued approaching the girls. Fearing for their safety and worried they could be forced into the vehicle, the girls began yelling for help. A nearby woman reportedly witnessed their distress and called 911. According to the parent, the van sped away after the occupants noticed the woman. The family says they have fully cooperated with police. Officers reportedly spoke with nearby residents and obtained surveillance footage showing the vehicle and its driving behaviour. We’ve been made aware that Langton Hall in Chelmsford is currently being used for Friday prayers. (mosque) We’ve been keeping an eye on the situation and, so far, the main concern we’ve heard from local residents has been the volume of vehicles parking in the surrounding streets. There are also concerns as young children play nearby and the increase of traffic. Today, we were informed of an incident where a local resident reportedly asked for a vehicle to be moved because it was blocking access to her drive. It has been alleged that this led to an altercation, with claims that she was pushed and threatened. We understand part of the incident was filmed shortly afterwards. At this stage, these are allegations and we cannot verify exactly what happened. We’ve been made aware that Langton Hall in Chelmsford is currently being used for Friday prayers. (mosque) We’ve been keeping an eye on the situation and, so far, the main concern we’ve heard from local residents has been the volume of vehicles parking in the surrounding streets. There are also concerns as young children play nearby and the increase of traffic. Today, we were informed of an incident where a local resident reportedly asked for a vehicle to be moved because it was blocking access to her drive. It has been alleged that this led to an altercation, with claims that she was pushed and threatened. We understand part of the incident was filmed shortly afterwards. At this stage, these are allegations and we cannot verify exactly what happened.
