5.56 does damage because it tumbles after impact. Those giant ripples and gas cavities you see in ballistic gel videos aren't a true representation of what happens inside a guy's body when he's shot. Translucent ballistic gel just looks cool in slow motion.

Dead is dead doesn't matter if it's a 9mm, 5.56, pencil, brick or broadhead.

One explanation I heard was that the FMJ round doesn't have enough structural strength to pass through the body intact and so it breaks up causing multiple avenues of damage. And you can see it on gel shots!

This is bad advice. You MUST use a one way valve to close a hole in the chest. Not letting the pressure release from the lungs is equal to or more lethal than the bullet itself. It WILL cause organ failure using a fuckin ramen bag. Yikes.
