Difficulty and value are inexorably linked. The only thing that gives said objective value at all is its difficulty. If money was everywhere, along with huge piles of gold, on every street corner - it would have no value at all. Understand that it is the difficulty that delivers the DESIRE at all. YOU WOULDN’T WANT IT IF IT WASN’T HARD. Therefore... Complaining that it’s hard is a LOGIC FAIL. People complaining about things being hard is as stupid as complaining things are valuable. "Getting a 6 pack is hard" = "Getting a 6 pack is valuable" Be glad it’s hard. If it wasn’t you wouldn’t want it. Or you’d already have it along with everyone else and nobody would care. Hard to make a million bucks, that’s why it’s worth..... a million bucks. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be. I always say to replace the word HAVE with GET for an instant mindset shift. "I GET to go to work today" Here’s another: Replace the word HARD with IMPORTANT and you will instantly see how motivation appears from thin air. "Making money is important" "Being in good shape is important" Yes. It is. Suppose an AI model fully automates a $200k job. Its economic value - measured in contribution to GDP - will be both far more and far less than $200k. There are two ways of thinking about the model's economic value: (1) It'll be far more than $200k. After all, the human worker's labor was worth $200k; AI workers will have a bunch of advantages over humans, like not needing to sleep and being able to run in parallel, so their labor will be worth even more. (2) It'll be far less than $200k. Competition between labs might drive the price of AI down until it's basically equal to the cost of the GPUs and energy. And this is obviously way lower than the human worker's contribution to GDP. The important idea is that both are right. The marginal contribution to GDP of running an additional instance of this model will probably be relatively low. But we'll end up running way more copies of it, so the model's total contribution to GDP will be way higher than the human workers it replaced.

Peter Thiel: “AI chips will get commoditized.” Yes, the value in AI has largely accrued to the semiconductor level so far amd concentrated largely in $NVDA. But this is bound to change. In chips, you can stay as a monopoly only if you have an exclusive partnership with the monopoly in a downstream market. This is how $INTC dominated CPUs for decades, by partnering up with $MSFT. We can’t see such a partnership in AI, industry dynamics don’t allow it: - Downstream market is fragmented. - Price/performance drives decisions. As a result, the more AI workloads shift to inference, the more fragmented the AI accelerator market will become as inference-specific chips or custom chips of hyperscalers will be used more. Yes, it looks like most of the value has accrued to $NVDA right now but it’s almost certainly not sustainable. This is why I don’t own it despite seemingly attractive valuation. Its base is already too high and it’ll certainly struggle to maintain it let alone grow.
