Most sales compensation models are misaligned. They reward the signature, not what comes after, so we rebuilt it. Starting in 2026, Shopify's sales compensation will be tied to one thing: long-term merchant success. It’s a bet on merchants and our team.

Denver Highlight 3: How do we think about building a long term community? Crouton.hl: > Retention: Do users "stick around after you stop paying them to be there?" > Alignment: Do they "believe in the mission?"2 > Trust: Will they be your defenders "technically and reputationally" > Ownership: Do they "feel like owners" and "feel like part of the team?" Do they "have a say in in what you're doing?" Long-term value creation requires building, aligning incentives and values long term. Ownership matters.
