Con Air is 28 years old today - A THREAD Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and John Malkovich headed up one of the greatest casts of the 90s in one of the silliest, most entertaining action movies of the decade. It's ridiculously ridiculous and I love it. Welcome to Con... show more

'Oh stewardess, stewardess... what's the inflight movie?' John Malkovich as Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom is one of my favourite movie villains. He was once asked why he did this film. He answered... 'Money.' Saying that Cyrus is one of his best performances. 2/

'Welcome to Con Air.' With the ease of how the convicts take over the plane, it's really no surprise that The U.S. Marshals, who run the actual Con Air program, wanted nothing to do with this movie. 3/

'If your dick jumps out of your pants, you jump out of this airplane.' Nicolas Cage was fresh from an Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas, both Con Air and Face/Off were released weeks apart. He was having a pretty good time in '97. 4/

'This situation better get unfucked right now.' For any fans of The Commitments and Star Trek: The Next Generation Colm Meany's performance was a revelation. 5/

'Put the bunny back in the box.' Out of all the great quotes from this movie, this is probably the line everybody remembers the most. Also, Steve Buscemi's serial killer Garland Greene is, unsurprisingly, a work of genius. 6/

'I'm gonna save the fuckin' day.' Nicolas Cage was put on a strict dietary regimen to help him tone and bulk up muscle while reducing his already slim physique to a mere 3% body fat. he also didn't drink as much as he did in Leaving las Vegas. 7/

'He's got the whole world in his hands.' An action film this idiotic doesn't deserve to have performances this good. Steve Buscemi is incredible here in this eerie scene that genuinely creeps me out. 8/

'Drug'll end you, son.' The thing about Jerry Bruckheimer productions is that even the smallest role shines. Dabbs Greer is brilliant as the old guy under the truck. Dabbs appeared in over 100 movies and 600 TV episodes. 9/

'Define irony...' To prepare for his role, Steve Buscemi studied Ed Gein, Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, and especially Jeffrey Dahmer's calm demeanour and insanity. 10/

'Well, Viva Las Vegas.' The legendary Sands Hotel was scheduled for demolition in late 1996. The production team immediately scheduled a multiple camera setup to take advantage of the rare event, which is what you actually see in the movie. 11/

'I got a picture of you...' For a ballys action movie, this ending packs one hell of an emotional punch. Nic Cage delivers this so well. 'How Do I Live' was nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie. It didn't win either award. Con Air will always be on my comfort movie list.

The Con Air end credits are perfect. They basically say, 'I hope you had as much fun watching this as we had making it.' And that end shot of Nicolas Cage... Magnificent!! All movies should end this way.
