Our Parish has done this for months now since receiving a second priest. There is always a line that lasts through mass. So it definitely works!

No. Before or after. Nothing should be going on in the church which would compete with Mass.

St. Alphonsus: “Does a person who makes his confession during Mass satisfy the obligation of hearing Mass? No; for then he would attend it as a criminal accusing himself of his sins, and not as a person offering sacrifice; and it is certain that all who hear Mass offer sacrifice along with the priest.”

before Vatican II we cld go to Confession during Mass before the Gospel was read.

This is actually an Eastern idea, some Byzantine parishes do confession during Divine Liturgy if there’s availability. Ideally everyone who needs to attends confession prior, as the liturgy is a corporate act, and it shouldn’t be disrupted by too many people trying to confess simultaneously.

I wish my church offered a bunch wider window for confession times

Returning to monthly confessions a year ago was the best decision I’ve made in a while.

I'm enraged that the many parishes in my diocese, most of them, typically only offer confession on Saturday, 4-4:30 PM. 30 Minutes once a week? Outrageous. The largest parish downtown, run by hyper-progrsssive OMI's, also does this... But they have 5 Sunday masses? 🤔

Before is best.

My ICKSP church starts them 30 minutes before every mass - there is an extra priest and the confessions continue even during mass —- always a big line
