This was Brock Purdy's best game. Not from a box score standpoint, but he ran out of countless sacks and bailed the offense out on third down numerous times. Some of his best decisions were throwaways. He had 7 throwaways in the game, matching his season total. It wasn't a great game for the 49ers WRs or the running game. That meant Purdy would need to make plays while playing within himself on obvious passing downs. He did. On 3rd & 5 or longer, from the two-minute drill on, Purdy went 6-for-8 with five first downs and a TD in a windy road game vs. a top 5 passing defense. Here are 5 of those third down throws. Quality bounce back after last week.

I wanna say something about Philip Rivers. He hasn’t played football in over 5 years, he steps up in a role we have never seen. Coming into this job and immediately playing against the best defense in the NFL. The next week having to play against the other hottest defense and offense in the NFL, in the 49ers. He managed to be the best player on the field tonight for the Colts, as a 44 year old that just took the job. This story will always be remembered by me as a die-hard NFL fan, he played his heart out.

Fred Warner was asked if he thought the 49ers should have played defense first in OT against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl: “No. We just got done on defense stopping Patrick Mahomes and their offense from going down and scoring a touchdown to win the game. We were up by 3 points in the 4th quarter and they drove down on like a 15-play drive. I remember being man to man on Travis Kelce on that third down before they kicked the field goal. He ran a corner route, which I had seen him run against Kyle Hamilton in the AFCCG the week before and he scored a touchdown. So I knew the route he was running. Pat throws the ball and I barely tipped it away and I get up and I’m like 'Holy smokes I’m fried'. They kick the field goal to tie it up and I’m sitting there at the coin toss and you can see I’m trying to catch my breath still. So if our defense has to go right back out there to start overtime, we’re dead tired. Let our offense go out there and fight for a little bit and then give us a chance.”

Unfortunately I'll miss the rest of my junior season 🆘️ I've been playing with a "Complex Meniscus Tear" since a week 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝟭. I tried to go all szn but the smart decision is to shut it down now. While SD Mines dropped a 52-50 heartbreaker in a 4 OT shootout against Michigan Tech, Mines’ Redshirt Senior QB Jake Martinelli absolutely balled out! Martinelli completed 39 of 61 passes for 443 yards and 5 TDs and gained another 62 yards on the ground. While Martinelli threw 1 INT, I’ve watched it over and over, and quite simply, the officials got the call wrong. Mines’ Redshirt Junior WR Mason Galbreath was a major contributor to Martinelli’s tremendous game as he pulled in 10 catches for 160 yards and 1 TD. Mines’ Junior WR Colton Grover contributed another 40 receiving yards on 3 catches, 2 of which were for TDs. The defense was led by Senior LB Hunter Newsom, who recorded 7 tackles (5 Solo & 2 Ast), with 3 tackles for a loss. Despite the loss, SD Mines’ offense was impressive! The defense, for a second straight week played great in the 1st half as they held Michigan Tech to just 7 points going into halftime. With the consistence that will come from game time experience and repetition, this team is going to win a lot of games this Fall! Glad to hear the Trump administration has created a federal task force to crack down on animal cruelty… including dog fighting and abusive puppy mills. They can start by focusing on shutting down the puppy mills throughout the Midwest and making sure USDA inspectors are actually doing their jobs instead of looking the other way. This is a video of a Shiba Inu I rescued last year from an Amish puppy mill. There’s no world where an inspector saw this dog and thought he was being properly cared for.

DeMeco Ryans, typically a conservative, defensive-minded coach, surprisingly went hyper-aggressive by going for it. Instead of punting to pin an offense they’d mostly contained— majority of points came from a short field after a kick return, missed FG, and personal fouls—he went for it. The Chiefs hadn’t driven the length of the field all game but you go for 4th & long, snapping the ball as the play clock expired, giving the chiefs the ball on your own 44. Defense forces a 3 & out. Chiefs are faced in same scenario (4th & long on Texans 43), punt and pin us at the 7. 3 & out & they get the ball with great field position again, FG, game.
