I had repeatedly urged the Congress Party not to bring a No-confidence motion against Hon'ble Speaker but they ignored the advice. But when it came to standing by their own motion, they chose to run away! Such conduct shows a complete lack of seriousness towards Parliament.

In today’s No Confidence Motion against the Speaker, we are seeing the ruling regime exploit a Constitutional vacuum of their own creation. For 7 years, the Lok Sabha does not have a Deputy Speaker - who is supposed to be presiding over these proceedings. As a result, someone from the Panel of Chairpersons is presiding over the No Confidence Motion against the Speaker. However, this Panel is appointed solely by the Speaker, thus making it ineligible to preside over a debate that deals with the Speaker’s removal. It was our demand that the House elect a presiding officer who can act as Chairperson for this motion.

The reason behind the No confidence motion against the Hon’ble Speaker is simple - It is Gandhi family’s inability to accept equal treatment before law. Those accustomed to dynastic privilege often mistake even equal treatment for injustice. I have submitted a letter seeking a short-duration discussion, but the government has no time for it. The entire world is affected by petrol, LPG, and rising prices. Why are they not agreeing to discuss this? Prices are increasing every day, yet the government does not want to hold a discussion on this issue. Whatever we suggest is rejected, and whatever they want is introduced and passed forcefully using their majority. Is this democracy? We believed that with the new Speaker, the Opposition would get justice. When a motion for the removal of the Speaker is taken up, Article 96 makes it very clear that the Speaker cannot sit in the Chair. The actions of the Speaker also cannot be admitted at that point of time. You (Jagdambika Pal) have been appointed by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. You are sitting there as a member of the panel of chairpersons appointed by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Article 93 states: “The House of the People shall, as soon as may be, choose two members of the House to be respectively Speaker and Deputy Speaker thereof and, so often as the office of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker becomes vacant, the House shall choose another member to be Speaker or Deputy Speaker, as the case may be.” Immediately after the election, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are supposed to be elected. For the last seven years, you have not elected a Deputy Speaker. You have created a constitutional vacuum. This question is very clear.
