"AI platform providers should ensure their products are safe" is not a safety plan. It is self-regulation. The same billionaires racing to build systems more powerful than anything we have ever created are now supposed to write the rules, police themselves, and tell Congress when to slow down? That is like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. AI companies have pledged roughly $265 million to political groups this cycle. "China" is not an excuse to hand humanity’s future to the people with the most money to give to Congress. If you truly believe there is urgency, bring a bill to the floor: independent safety audits, mandatory pre-release testing, a real federal regulator, and an emergency shutdown requirement. Otherwise, this is not leadership. It's asking for permission.

This is the first visit of Her Royal Highness to Ukraine since our independence was reinstated and it was symbolic that our meeting took place at such a historic site as Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. The key topic of our conversation was about the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. I invited Her Highness to participate in the next summit of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. We also discussed the rehabilitation of our warriors and the implementation of barrier-free practices to ensure their full reintegration into society. I am grateful to Her Royal Highness for her special attention and support for Ukraine and our people. Thank you for the meeting and for engaging with the children who have been returned, as well as with our veterans. I wrote and passed the TAKE IT DOWN Act, the only legislation Congress has enacted restricting AI, to protect victims from AI-generated deepfakes. And I’m working with Senators Amy Klobuchar and John Thune on legislation to address catastrophic risks involving biological or nuclear threats. We cannot stick our heads in the sand and pretend this technology isn’t happening. We need guardrails. But America needs to lead. If China leads the world in AI, the whole world is in trouble.
