Israel simply agreed to occasionally pause its bombing campaign to allow the WHO to do their work. And why? Not simply out of the goodness of their hearts. Israel's own officials said the vaccination campaign was important to stop the disease spreading into Israel. Human Rights Watch also said Israel's attacks on healthcare infrastructure and water supplies, and its blocking of humanitarian aid, had inflamed the polio outbreak. Bret Stephens: If Israel were trying to commit genocide in Gaza, why did it allow any food at all? Mehdi Hasan: Well, not because they wanted to, Bret. Israel was pressured by the Biden administration into allowing in tiny amounts of food. Netanyahu agreed to let in only a small amount of supplies and even asked that this concession remain secret.
