Consider this a small reminder that while the internet is busy shouting about everything, there's a black cockatoo sitting in a tree outside my house quietly getting on with the important business of destroying Marri nuts. One of the things I love most about living on a farm is... the regular stream of visitors. This particular visitor is a black cockatoo, most likely a Baudin's, although I'm fully aware that the bird experts of the internet may arrive shortly to inform me that it's actually a Carnaby's. If so, I look forward to my education. Baudin's have the longer beak and spend a lot of their time tearing apart Marri nuts, which is exactly what this one was doing outside the house. Carnaby's tend to favour the drier woodlands and wheatbelt country, while Baudin's are more commonly found through the forests of the south-west. Either way, a whole flock of them regularly turns up and spends the day methodically dismantling Marri nuts. By nightfall, it often looks like a small explosion has occurred in the trees above the lawn. There are gumnut fragments everywhere. Still, they provide endless opportunities for photography and video, so I reckon we're getting the better end of the deal.show more

I was not always a mother who knew. In fact, I remember bristling at this part of Sis. Beck's talk. I was a young mother of three small, busy boys, and the last thing I wanted to be told was that my role in the grand plan of happiness was to do dishes and laundry. If I only knew then what I know now. What I know now is how truly important it is for a mother to be home with her children. That the "mundane" tasks of motherhood actually refine a woman. That serving your family only increases your love for them. That there is nothing more beneficial for your children than cultivating and creating a home where they are safe, loved and taught the principles of the gospel. That what the world offers is only a distraction from what's most important. I'd love to say that I'm now perfect at doing the dishes, the laundry and keeping my home. I am not. But I no longer feel like those tasks are a burden. I see them as a meaningful and important contribution to the most important thing in all of time and eternity...my family.

Edgar Wright on his favourite shot in 'Black Narcissus' (1947): "I think 'Black Narcissus' (1947) is one of the greatest colour movies of all time. There is one particular shot towards the end of the film with Kathleen Byron, which, in my head, that is probably minutes of film, when in reality the shot is only on screen for less than two seconds And it's a shot of Kathleen Byron coming through a doorway, and it's part of an incredible climax, which I won't spoil if you've never seen the film. But it's one of those shots in Cinema that is ingrained on my brain. Like a lot of Powell and Pressburger films, I think it's just [has] a picturesque quality to it which is just somehow difficult to pinpoint exactly what the magic of Powell and Pressburger together is. But I think the thing is sometime these are the films that you keep returning to, is you can't kind of define exactly what it is about the film that keeps you obsessed, you just keep coming back. I recently found this video on YouTube called "The Time War: How Future Intelligences Are Rewriting the Present" It's super trippy, but it really got me thinking about the implications of the Future attempting to rewrite the past. Where are we headed? Who is steering the ship of humanity? If time travel is real, what does this mean for so-called "prophecies"? If reality is hackable/programmable, then who is doing it? If there is a force attempting to rewrite the past to ultimately shift the direction of the future, then this would imply that NOW is also a past, and WE have the power NOW to consciously shift the direction to a better outcome. Time isn't linear (most see it as an illusion), yet it is still a construct of reality that we live within. What we have is free will, the power of choice, and this collectively moves us from timeline to timeline. Are you aware of your choices and their effects? Ripples? (I must add that I do not agree with everything in this video I just find it very interesting and it gets me thinking outside of the box)
