$1000 left to pay on my mortgage which I hope to knock off next month. Paying off ur mortgage is protecting the floor and I am a "protect the floor" kinda guy

Well done

Max out TFSA first... the rest to mortgage. We didn't have TFSA before 2009. I concentrated on paying it off and did in 2011. TFSA is the 8th wonder of the world

Mortgage-free cash-flow is great. Imo, max TFSA, max-RRSP matching. Avoid all high interest debt. Burn down debt. Sure, coulda taken a more leveraged position and made more. Too stressful for me.

Always max out your TFSA. People need to take advantage of that powerful tax shelter. Afterwards, it depends on your situation and desires.

Finally someone who says do both. We pay an accelerated weekly mortgage payment plus I added a bit extra to the payment when I renewed. Mortgage will be paid off about 3 years before I retire. While also continuing to invest.

Won’t be optimal but who cares. Doing both diversifies your ways to build wealth and decreases regret minimization. If you’re doing either, you’re helping your future, don’t sweat the small stuff. Contribute to your RRSP, some of the refund to mortgage, some to TFSA. Done.

I made a lot of money not taking Trudeaus investment advice. He told Canadians, bitcoin was basically a bad investment. As soon as I heard this I knew it was the time to buy. I bought bitcoin at 15k it’s now at 77k, Up an easy 5x or 400+%. The only time the liberals have ever helped me. 😂

Do both? You must be a proponent of the Smith manoeuvre!

I think it is best to invest in the American economy. If our bond market explodes or implode our currency won't be far behind. Then paying off the mortgage should be easy as the Canadian dollar goes the way of the peso and the yen

Buy Canadian Bank stocks into TFSA and get paid 3.5% dividend plus (unknown) appreciation. Pay minimum mortgage if its in 3.5% area, bank stock appreciation is pure juice.

Depends on age….Split ratio between the two by where you see the market going vs mortgages %. 3/4 of my net worth is Invested outside of real estate. For me paying it off makes sense. 3 properties w/ 4 years remaining = tasty FCF

Nobody likes owing money. The difference is certainty vs. uncertainty. Paying down debt gives you a guaranteed return. Investing gives you a probabilistic one. Mistake is assuming certainty > better outcome.

Ron you should see if you can get @benjaminfelix in for an interview. He's pretty sharp on this subject.

Both is the right answer. But where you hold those investments matters - tax drag quietly eats years of compounding.

“I’m an old man…….” Haha Love you Ron!

Respectfully disagree. Paying off your mortgage is risk-free. The financial gains are easy to calculate and are guaranteed. Investments…all investments…come with some degree of risk. In addition, most people invest using a financial advisor and must pay significant fees.

Get rid of the mortgage buy physical gold.. Not that complicated

Always always look at the after tax implications. Paying off the mortgage is always the best approach

I feel like it’s prob best to rent right now. The labour market is very unstable and even if you are employed today, you may suddenly without warning find yourself unemployed tonmorrow. Finding work, good paying work especially, is very difficult. You need to be able to relocate

Well invest in what in Canada right now? Slim pickn's, nothing is looking to stable

lol

Or pay off your mortgage and do the smith maneuver.

60/40 ..... If i worried about paying off my mortgage i would of missed my 2007 $GOOG shares and more .... Happy mortgage :))
