Holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar responsible for the 1984 Sikh Genocide—by a handful of pro-Khalistani fringe elements in diaspora-is not only factually incorrect but deeply irresponsible and tragic. Such false narratives risk derailing the genuine issues of the Sikh community and harming long-term interests. History is clear: the 1984 genocide was orchestrated and enabled under the Congress leadership, which held power both before and after those horrific events. Prime Minister Modi, in contrast, has made serious efforts to deliver long-overdue justice. Under his leadership, Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment, and other long-suppressed cases have been reopened in pursuit of accountability for the massacre of innocent Sikhs. Spreading this poisonous and revisionist narrative, especially among our younger generation, serves no purpose except to divide and mislead. It is our collective responsibility to stand up against radical misinformation. If we fail to call out such distortion, we weaken our moral standing and reduce the space for sincere engagement with the Government of India on Sikh concerns.
