Just brought this beautiful book from the Notting Hill Carnival shop! Celebrating 60yrs of carnival 🎉 My dad (64), a North Londoner, grew up with carnival and would take my siblings and I every summer holiday. Sunday really did used to be family day back then 😅. Aaron Frasier lived in a Jacksonville Florida home where his parents were always fighting. His mother left one day and never came back when he was three, which ended up with him being in foster care. When Aaron was older, his father gave him the childhood home. He was excavating the backyard and tearing out the swimming pool, he hit a water line where the outdoor shower was. After turning the water off, he started digging to find where the line needed to be repaired. This is where he ended up finding a skull wrapped in heavy duty sheeting. Turns out Aarons mother never left. It was all a lie and his father had murdered her.

I debated posting this because maybe I’m too bias but seriously I don’t think she reads her books until book club nights. - Ok I’ve watched a few episodes of the book club. Last book club I had the feeling she hadn’t actually read the book we were reviewing. And seemed like she was making up things to say about what she was reading for the first time. I thought well maybe she just forgot these parts. I’ll let it go. Then last night she did a whole segment on a guy and his beliefs but then asks her staff to pull up his Wikipedia page and states she never had seen his picture before and seemed to be reading directly from her book to learn about him. She hadn’t seen his picture? How did you not see his picture when even when your producer searched him a lot of pictures came up. You did an entire segment in your book about him. Who did your research? Because it wasn’t you. Maybe I’m bias but did she even write this book? Candace you seem surprised about things in it. Ok I’m off my rant but it seems odd to me. More to come still listening.

RFK said he read the book multiple times, trying to figure out what lesson his dad wanted to give him. Here is what he said: "Camus had written this book called The Plague. My father gave it to me and he told me, with this kind of peculiar intensity, 'I want you to read this'." "He said this with this directness that after he died, I ended up reading that book about three times, trying to figure out kind of what the message was that he was trying to give me." Breakdown of the book: - "The Plague" is set in a North African city hit by an unprecedented plague. - The city is quarantined, and the story begins with a focus on the doctor's internal conflict. - The doctor initially considers not helping because there is no treatment the unknown disease. - Despite the risks, the doctor decides to comfort and serve the people. - Camus, an existentialist, draws from Stoicism, focusing on duty and service. - The doctor's actions bring order to the chaos, reflecting Stoic philosophy. - RFK then discussed Sisyphus, a figure in Stoicism, who is happy despite his eternal, futile task. - Sisyphus's happiness comes from fulfilling his duty (protecting people from a rolling stone), regardless of the outcome. He tells police he needs to deliver packages there. He gets down the road, waves at people actively searching for her, keeps going to the dead end, then turns around. By the time he comes back, the road is fully blocked. Instead of backing off, he starts honking and getting irritated that search crews are in his way. A woman from search and rescue walks up and tells him a little girl has been kidnapped. His response: Are you serious? No urgency. No emotion. Nothing. He just went right back to the scene, blended in, and acted like it was an inconvenience. Sick!!!
