Continuing to spend massively more than we take in each year—adding on to our public debt—cannot go on forever. The United States is on the path to financial catastrophe unless we put partisanship aside and produce constructive and honest solutions to stabilize our debt.

If corporations paid the actual tax rate, we wouldn't have a deficit at all. It is that simple. And this is a very low corporate tax rate compared to when average GDP growth was highest and the middle class was strongest back in the 1960s. Back then the corporate tax rate was around 50%.
