Controlled drifting with a keyboard - I am liking this!
74 Yorum

A really great thing with this is how far back the camera is.

Thanks, I wanted to make sure you can see the car and feel the drift a bit so there's a bit of turn lag on the camera too so you get a bit of extra feel for the slide.

Yes, there is so much more dynamism possible with a camera like this in comparison to traditional racing games where it is very much a focus on making the car look good. This is very cinematic. Great work.

where can i play this

Nowhere yet, I'm building it now and I think this one will make it into a game.

I really like the colors of your game. Did you use some specific trick or shader for them?

Thanks! I'm using no texture maps except subtle textures on the ground, so the trees and car are all colorized with my palette texture technique I feature a lot on my YouTube channel. So all the polygons are solid colors, then bloom and lighting combined makes them pop when the colors are saturated.

@Asgard_009 @dimeao ça a changé tutut

too unrealistic i'm afraid. where are the megalodons breathing fire in the bg

Haha, yeah, well - making more tracks and environments will be FUN! :D

It feels cool just looking at it 🔥Is there some demo or something? I'm really curious about how drifting actually feels when driving it

It's a prototyping turning into a game now, possibly. I always play with keyboard, and this may be too floaty for many who like real physics, but with finesse and timing, you can really get the apex and after a few laps I think it feels wonderful.

If the gameplay allows two or more inputs and is fun, then everything else is just details imho. It already looks like a lot of fun, so I wish you the best in bringing the prototype to life. I'm really looking forward to trying it out, whether in the demo or the final release

Awesome to hear that. I like that attitude to - if it's fun - that's the important part :D

Looks like a 3D version of the 90's game Slicks'n'Slide 😁

That's a good thing, I loved that game and I'm probably using the same primitive "physics". It's not a simulator anyway, that's for sure :D

that looks super cool.

Thanks, glad you like it!

This is soo good

Thanks! :D

How did you setup the sound? Good job with everything!

It's a bit of smoke and mirros for the audio. I tried engine ramps first, but I was unhappy with it. Now I'm using recorded acceleration ramps instead of trying to simulate RPM, so it kind of just has an accelerating sound while you speed up, and then it switches to the exhaust bangs and RPM drops when you release the throttle. So it's not correlating to the correct RPM or gear, it's just designed to make it sound believable but I'll be looking at improving it.

Ok, but i didnt hear the typical pitching up effect. It sounded more like a change of intenisty before the exhaust. Good stuff

Love the lag + ease in the camera helps a ton in the immersion!

Thanks, yes, the camera lag felt essential so you can enjoy the slide and also see better where you're going. I think it should be fun when you're racing with others too.

Keep up the good work

Thanks!

Pretty good, early game effort. Keep going. 🙂

Thanks, I'm moving ahead with it :)

It looks awesome 😍, but with that smooth cinematic camera, it also looks unplayable. 😅 🔥🤘ARCADE COIN EATER🤘🔥

Haha thanks. I've done a lot of sim racing before and I *always* play drive-seat/cockpit view, but with this powersliding arcade, having the camera behind lets you see and feel the slide. I think it's playable! =)

Can't try it so it's just an impression. The look & feel is great, kudos for that. 👍 However, I *only* play third camera and I master Outrun 2 and Sega Rally series. Both based on sliding mechanic. From what I can see here, lot of guesswork involved in the trajectories.

My first experiences with games like this were Cartrider by @Nexon_America and DriftCity. You might be able to find some unique features in these. They did it very well.

@Nexon_America Thank you! I will have a look!

great art and color selection. did you design the models?

Yes, I made the car a few years ago on my YouTube channel, and the trees I've made just the past few weeks and now they're coming together in the same project =)

Yooo, I really need to play this lol. I love the look and feel of the setting and the relaxed physics and camera position and movement are perfect.

Hey, glad to hear that! It takes a bit of practice (but not much) to get to the point where you can do this full test track (2 minutes) and clip every apex in a nice slide - but I suspect many will initially think it feels too floaty. But I'm loving it =)

this looks super cool!!!

Happy to hear that!

Wow. This Looks fantastic. Is there a Tutorial about this somewhere?

Not a full tutorial, but more information about the custom physics I use in my video here:

looking forward to it, you won a new follower and a buyer on steam day one, just like i saw in HASTE and teardown, i see future in your project too, low keye, let us know how to mod the game, gonna slam some initial-D into it first thing.

I like hearing this - if you can see the future and I have the potential to be in it, I'm down!! =) I'd love to add modding, especially allowing people to tweak parameters because I am sure there are tons of people out there who could test cool values and come up and share cool settings. And then of course, adding cars and potentially tracks and parts if the game goes down the route of tuning. Have you got modding experience in other racing games?

barely any modding experience tbh, in fact no coding experience at all, just some custom texture here and there and a few files modification so I can hear Ready or Not music in H3vr😅sorry

This looks fun!!

Thanks, I'm having fun just testing it now trying to beat my own laptime chasing perfect apex lines =)

@Imphenzia Stefan, this looks SO amazing and immersive! You are making us enjoy both the driving AND the beauty of the track at the same time! Cant wait for your final product! 😁

Thanks mate! I'm glad this is what comes through from the video. I'll be focusing the next period ahead in making this game.

Turn this into a Web3 Game It will cook

I don't think web rendering would approve of poly current count =)

I need it with controller support plz!

Yes, that will be added!

Dang, that looks fun! What's the game called?

I haven't decided a name just yet, still thinking about it!

retro need for speed vibes

I loved NFS growing up!

This looks really fun to play, good shit

I'm enjoying trying to beat my time. Adding more cars and multiplayer will be fun!

I watched the entire video without the sound on. I got goosebumps of excitement for this game.

That's a good sign, I like it :D

Unity Engine or Unreal?

This is Unreal Engine. I like the look and performance, but understanding optimization is a bit daunting =)

Do you have a playable build I could try? Interested in knowing how the drift feels like. As I have plans to build a racing game as well.

Not yet, but I think this one may become a game now. I think the initial response from many will be that it feels floaty, but I can't help but feel in much control when you learn it and can powerslide every corner controlled. I think there is a problem trying to replicate real physics and then making it fully controllable with digital input like a keyboard.

That's awesome!

@Napk1nX скрррррр

If this is on keyboard, then it's ridiculously good, seen this kind of smooth steering in very few games

Yeah, I am a keyboard player. It's probably too floaty for many, especially in the beginning, but after a few laps and with finesse, I am loving driving around the track trying to get flawless laps.

I really like it, but the jumps are a bit too airy.

@mica_mada I think I already have 2 times Earth's gravity to keep them down. Maybe there's room to increase it even more :D

Everything looks perfect 🔥🔥

Thanks! I like how it feels too, but I think initial reactions will vary, but I hope that when people play it and feel the upside to what's possible, it'll come out a winner :D

Smooth !👍
