Joshua Nkomo was a towering African political figure in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, revered as a father of the nation and a symbol of unity and resilience. A trained social worker and nationalist leader, he co-founded the Southern Rhodesia African National Congress in the 1950s and later led the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), fighting for the emancipation of black Zimbabweans from colonial rule. Nicknamed “Father Zimbabwe,” Nkomo was known for his calm demeanour, inclusive vision, and unwavering commitment to justice. He was deeply respected for his attempts to promote peace during turbulent times, even when he was betrayed or marginalised. May his soul rest in peace!

My brother Shahrez Khan has finally walked free Alhamdulillah from Kot Lakhpat Jail after being illegally abducted from his home in Lahore on 21st August. He endured this trial with patience and courage, and yesterday the ATC granted him bail. Insha’Allah, Shershah Khan will also be released tomorrow. Just like Imran Khan has always said, his sacrifice is for Pakistan and the rule of law, inspiring all who fight against injustice.

Freedom isn’t free. Years ago, I was watching Saving Private Ryan in a theater when, during the opening D-Day battle scene, an elderly man sitting in front of me suddenly shouted to his friend: “This is just like when we were there.” After the movie was over, I asked them if they had indeed fought in D day and they had. In fact, one had lost his younger brother that day in that gruesome battle. In an instant, history became personal. Their sacrifice filled my heart with gratitude. In an even greater way, when we fix our eyes on the cross of Christ, we are reminded of the greatest battle ever fought. At Calvary, Jesus faced sin, death, and hell itself. not for His sake, but for ours. The freedom we enjoy as Americans was purchased by the sacrifice of brave men and women. This for all Americans is a reminder to be thankful of our American citizenship. On a grander scale, the freedom we enjoy as Christians was purchased by the sacrifice of the Son of God. This for all Christians is a reminder to be thankful for our eternal citizenship. D-Day changed the course of history. Calvary changed eternity. May we never take either for granted.

A professional Tank Roller who recovered many Communities from the Boko Haram, Spent 4 years at the Warfront without a leave, Commander of 272 Task Force, Fearless and Courageous Col Muhammed Abu Ali was Killed in November 2016. He won his promotion while at the battlegrounds and instead of being invited to the office for his official decorations, the Army never wanted to miss his service for a second therefore, the Chief of Army Staff then, Tukur Buratai had to travel to the war zone to decorate him . This speaks volume any time patriotism, commitment and love for country is being discussed. Few other distinguished officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have paid the supreme price. Recently, General Uba gave his all in the defence of the nation and there are so many others who have gone in similar circumstance. As we remember the selflessness and patriotism of our Fallen Heroes today, may the price they paid continue to bond us together as a Nation with an everlasting peace. The nation must take a step further not to only remember the fallen heroes but to improve the welfare and working conditions of the living patriots.
