"I was praying to Mary"

Here are the statements from the Catechism of the Catholic Church that this video relied upon: "Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation .... Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix." (Catholic Catechism 969) "...we address ourselves to the 'Mother of Mercy,' the All-Holy One. We give ourselves over to her now, in the Today of our lives." (Catholic Catechism 2677) "Mary is Mother of God and our mother; we can entrust all our cares and petitions to her" (Catholic Catechism 2677) "...when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things" (Catholic Catechism 966) "We can pray with and to her (Mary)." (Catholic Catechism 2679) - "Jesus satisfies an obligation owed to Mary for giving him a human nature. He pays his debt by answering her prayers." (Alphonsus Liguori, Glories of Mary, 1.6, "Mary our Advocate") "Oh, Mary God became your debtor so you could dispense mercy to sinners." (Alphonsus Liguori, Glories of Mary, 1.6, "Mary our Advocate") "Heaven's gates will open to all who trust in Mary." (Alphonsus Liguori, Glories of Mary, 1.6, "Mary our Salvation")

Remember when you lost a debate to @ShamelessPopery so bad that you had to argue that Mark 16:16 isn’t in the Bible? Then that it should be removed and doesn’t count bc it doesn’t say what you want to believe? Classic Sola Scriptura = Sola Me.

“She brings us the gifts of eternal salvation” You equating that with Catholics believing Mary is the source of grace is weak. Are you the type of person who gets a birthday gift from your relatives far away and then personally thank the Amazon driver for your gift?

If “pray” means “ask” (which is the original meaning of the word pray), then you do pray to your friends to pray for you. This is just a semantic misunderstanding.

Willful ignorance, bearing false witness, and causing mocking division when Christ prays for us to be one does not bring one closer to Jesus Christ.

When you're taking your "engagement" ideas from Taco Talks instead of engaging honestly with people, it's time to step away from the app and examine why you are really here. Are you honestly engaging in conversation about theology, or are you grifting?

Saying Mary brought us the gifts of eternal salvation is simply affirming the Incarnation. And praying (making a petition) to a saint alive in heaven ≠ worship. Saints in heaven are alive (Mt 22:32) aware of Christians on earth (Heb 12:1) and offering prayers to God (Rev 6:10). Are Saints in heaven not able to do what saints on earth can do?

This is just deception lol. Is it also blasphemy for one to call his dad by the title ‘father’ because God has the same title? Titles can be the same words but doesn’t mean they are being used in the same divine sense used for God. (Scripture itself refers to the Angels and Saints as Holy ones without issue, why then should it be blasphemy when used for the sinless Mother of God?) All the titles and teachings about Mary’s God-given role aren’t to be confused or equated to the divine roles of the Trinity. Mary is not given the title advocate and helper in the sense of replacing the Holy Spirit (whom the Catholic Church affirms as the Advocate and Helper promised to lead the Church into all Truth). Neither does she bring us salvation in the sense of replacing Jesus, the Source of eternal Life. (obviously lol). Her titles have nothing to do with being divine. They are based on her motherly and intercessory roles given to her by God (interceding for others is a Christian practice). Mary helps, advocates and brings us eternal life by praying for and bringing us to her Son Jesus, the Saviour. She herself isn’t the Saviour. It’s just like when St. Paul says: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 Cor 9:22) No honest reader thinks that St. Paul is now replacing Christ as the Savior lol. Everyone understands that he is talking about saving people by bringing them to Christ through his role as an Apostle. This is the same sense Mary brings us eternal life: by her intercession. And Scripture clearly shows her playing her intercessory role in John 2 at the wedding at Cana and depicts her in Rev 12 as the mother of all Christians. Even the CCC 969 says it explicitly that it is “by her manifold intercession” that she brings us salvation and hence invoked under those titles. CCC 966 says it is God who made her Queen of all things. Not that she herself has become God. (If her Son is the King of all things, she the mother of the Davidic King is according to the Scriptures, the Queen of all things by that virtue. It is not by her own power) St. Alphonso if anything, is not the Magisterium and is not making dogmatic statements. At no point does a Catholic pray to anyone more than they do to God because even the prayers to Saints are ultimately being directed to God through the Saints. It’s not God vs Saints lol. Saints on their own can do nothing. Learn Catholicism!

Bro. Stop misleading God’s sheep. The very next passage 970 directly addresses what you’re insinuating. VM’s function is possible bc of Christ. An analogy, Christ is the sun, the Virgin Mary is a magnifying glass or mirror amplifying Christ. She’s an “advocate” to bring us to Him

You're being daft. God chose to give us His only begotten Son through the Blessed Virgin Mary. So, Jesus is the Redeemer. And He (Jesus, the Second Person of the Blessed Holy Trinity) was born of the BVM. Not hard to understand.

We don’t pray TO Mary. She prays FOR us as an intercessor. There are many pagan practices in the Catholic Church which is why I don’t pledge allegiance to them, only to Jesus. But be very careful. Jesus and His mother are extremely close. She was pure and suffered while watching Him be crucified. And all who slander her name will pay the ultimate price in Jesus’s mighty name. He is absolutely irate that people have been so deceived when it comes to his mother. Think about what you would do if people disrespected your mom? She was chosen by God to be the Virgin Mother of Jesus. Of course she has a high ranking in Heaven. It does not mean we pray to her. The prayers are very clear… Holy Mary, mother of God, pray FOR us sinners.

God doesn't have a mother. Jesus is God. Mary's role of mother to Him ended when Jesus' human body died on the cross.

@ActualEJMJensen This wrong theology is installed in them from birth in the traditional Roman catholic family. Forced into a cult from when they were born. It's not easy to let go of. I can vouch for that. But by the grace of God through Jesus Christ I did!!! Set free!!! Amen 🙏❤️🎉🎉
