It was never given to mankind to help themselves. This is why the Good Lord took the salvation of humans upon himself. Humans must spend time with the Lord, who alone can deliver them from sin. By spending time with God, conviction is deepened and sinful nature is cast away.

Even in the Old Testament, it states that those who knew they were sinning will be judged differently from those that didn’t know that they were sinning.
