The question "What was the moving violation that allowed the stop?", if there was no error of the driving it's self, not the paperwork, but speeding, or improper lane change, not using a turn signal... what attracted the officers attention? That was never answered. IF... the officer recognized the driver, had personnel knowledge of suspended driving status, just state it. Or, I was entering every license plate I saw passing me into the data base, quering their status, or the automated plate reader returned a suspended license hit, but that was never alleged. How hard would it have been to answer? Required or not, would have ended that question. If the registered owner ( RO ) wasn't driving, and a non-suspended was, what was the reason for the stop? It's not uncommon for the car to be driven by someone who isn't the RO. I understand that in public, you have no expectation of privacy. However, what gives the government the right to check the details of every passing vehicle? The 4th Amendment still applies. No reasonable articulable crime, no id, no search. Regardless of current jurisprudence, that's a violation of the 4th Amendment. Another brick removed ftom that wall.

Driving with a suspended license is valid traffic violation. Also they used to teach you in Drivers Ed, to not attempt to hold traffic court on the side of the road. Argue in the REAL traffic court. Asking for a supervisor won’t help. He’s never going to “rule” for you.

This shows how much the surveillance state has taken over and has on you. The whole show me your ID, registration and insurance is a joke anymore. When a cop pull you over they already have all that information available to them. The cop is proving this in the video. They already know who you are and whether your car is legally registered and what insurance you have. The only thing they need to be doing is verifying that the person allegedly committing a crime is the person that they're talking to which is showing an ID and since they already have your picture and address on their computer screen they actually even don't need that.

The Supreme Court addressed this directly in Kansas v. Glover (2020). An officer who learns from a database that the registered owner’s license is revoked may stop the car on that basis alone, based on the common-sense inference that the owner is likely the driver, unless something the officer can see undercuts that inference (for example, the driver is clearly a different person).

I know in NYC police can run your plate and see if the registered owner is suspended, howeverrr you still need probable cause aka an actual moving violation or equipment violation to lawfully stop the vehicle. This is because you can’t assume who is currently driving the vehicle.

You don't need to break a traffic law to get pulled over. Only reasonable suspension. Since the cop knew right away his license was suspended, he either knew the driver or a license plate reader caught it. Driving while suspended is a crime.

In Colorado, it IS a moving traffic violation to drive with a suspended or revoked DL.
