Plumber here. Copper is still in use in many places. Fire code denotes that it has to be used in certain circumstances. Some very expensive homes have this concern. Copper does nor combust, but plastics will. Also, copper can last forever under the right conditions.

So if all the houses had copper pipes back in the day and as I grew up, that’s when they started switching them out. So why because honestly the copper pipes last longer than those plastic ones they’re always breaking. Or do I just put too much thought into things like this.
