I've posed a question: "Does OpenAI have a better pre-train in the back pocket or not?" and looks like the answer from Mark Chen is "Yes" - so we should expect a big response from OpenAI before the end of the year. Mark Chen, OpenAI Head of Research: - "In the last 2 years we've put so much resourcing into, into reasoning and one byproduct of that is you lose a little bit of muscle on pre training and post training." - "In the last six months, Jakub Pachocki and I have done a lot of work to build that muscle back up." - "With all the focus on RL, there's an alpha for us because we think there's so much room left in pre training." - "As a result of these efforts, we've been training much stronger models. So it does look like my assessment was broadly correct and they were neglecting pre-training quite a bit. The good news is that they've spent the last 6 months building that up and the big response shouldn't be too far away.

I’ve been stuck inside today with a storm and missing Tina really hit me very bad for the first time. It’s been just over 2 months since she went… 📸 First time I was properly able to look back at photos and videos. She’s even better than I remembered 😠 I felt angry today. Just selfishly angry that I only got to know her for 6 months. ❤️ The phrase “it’s only a dog” just popped into my head. It’s amazing just how profound an effect one dog (or any animal) can have on you. I think about her 100 times a day. I have drawings from kids, paintings, key rings, toys etc people gifted me. 2 “Tina” teddy bears people crochet 🧶 are in my bed. Shes everywhere I go still. I smell her bandanas every day before I head out in the morning. Mainly I’m just sad and miss her. Plenty to keep busy with but like many who have lost special people / animals I’d give anything for just 1 hour with Tina. Just one hour of doing nothing sitting there with her. That would be my only wish right now in life I had one. The best girl there ever was 🥰

Was this the biggest Fortnite fumble of all time when releasing a big gaming legends collab skin? On day 2 Grace Ashcroft from the new game Resident Evil Requim didn't even crack the top 10 best selling skins in the item shop. Now on day 3 she's still not there and Sparkplug even sold more units than she did. That's wild! Honestly I like the skin a lot, I really do. First, the wars slowed us down. Now the flood is trying to finish the job. Day 2 and still no electricity. Yesterday was spent clearing mud, debris and sludge. Today, we finally began separating what's good, what's salvageable, and what has to be scrapped. The insurance survey is complete. At the same time, we're updating every buyer and asking them to immediately collect goods that are still in perfect condition. It protects their inventory. And gives us the space to keep clearing what's left. The biggest question still remains. The machines. Once the power returns, we'll know whether they still work. If they do, we could be back on our feet within weeks. If they don't, we're looking at months of rebuilding. Some things are outside your control. All you can do is keep showing up.

Alright guys, wow. Qwen 3.8 27B is basically Qwen 4. What we have here is one of the best one-shot shark survival games I've made with any model. I ran this same prompt through fable, and the biggest thing all models struggle with in this test is the top-down view of the sharks. Fable even had all of the fins reversed and details jumbled on the first turn. Before now, it was really a 2 to 8 turn test to get something final regardless of model. Qwen 3.8 27B just nailed this in one output, no harness at all, just purely the model thoroughly thinking before outputting the final result. On every asset used, different shark variants, everything, it all looks incredibly tight. The boat movement, shark speed and engagement, everything is so much better than I expected, and I was expecting a lot. Imagine what 8 turns would do in a harness? This confirms to me that while Qwen 3.8 27B thinks a lot, for the first time in a local model on the base weights, IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE WORTH IT This is a Frontier Lab model result, and it ran on my 5090 at 60tps in Q5_K_M. I am just in complete astoundment at what Qwen has accomplished here, and I am incredibly grateful that this model is open source. The speed will also increase drastically with optimisations. This is just an incredible day. What a blessing. More to come!
