The out-of-control young adult population is a direct result of the asinine idea that you never tell your child, "no" and only redirect them, even when in danger. Every child I know with parents that adopted this approach is either in jail or unethical.

I had to pick my switch at 8 yrs old. I lived, so will they, but only if Mom & Dad have a spine and use it!

You don't need to beat your kids but you do need to make sure that they know it is an option.

My mom's parenting philosophy was: "I love you and I want other people to love you too, [whack]." All she had to do was threaten with the slipper after I was 6 or 7; I don't remember her even having to do that after I was about 8.
