Yes, excessive firing can overheat and warp the barrel. Even metal has its limits.

Yes it can. Easy answer. In war the soldiers will carry extra barrels to quick swap their light and heavy machine guns. Normal rifles and sidearms generally don't need them cause they won't get as hot under normal usage.
