Former lecturer here & now full time research scientist. Having lived in Nigeria, I don't think it'll work but it won't hurt to try. Firstly, most academics in Nigeria are too conceited to meet in a bar. Secondly, outside of academic spaces, many do not kno how to OPENLY discuss.

We need places where we discuss manufacturing, reverse engineering, supply chains, design for manufacturing, and auxiliary equipment for various manufacturing processes, financing, networking, ecosystems, sustainable power supply etc

This was how the US independence movement and ultimately revolution began; tavern talks ~ They helped shape public opinion, build morale and momentum. Most of us in Nigeria have very little appreciation for Ideas and do not believe bars are ideal for topical lectures/discuss.

the kinds of conversations that happen in beer parlours in Lagos won't allow this to thrive.

We have done this with music artists in Jos and Abuja… sometimes the bar owners feel it’s bad business, other times they want to charge you for that time.
