Councils will have to prove their progress when fixing potholes - or face losing cash. From today, they'll have to publish annual progress reports to ensure they get their full share of £500 million from the government. Nick Dixon reports.

@NickDixonITV Pot holes are also caused by 3rd party contractors digging up roads to lay pipes and cables and not repairing them properly. They should provide a warranty on these repairs and fined if they fail to honour it.

@NickDixonITV They can report how many they've filled.. But the standard of repair needs looking at.. Within few weeks the same pothole is beginning to come back as the repair is sub standard

@NickDixonITV Figures from the RAC show drivers encounter an average of 6 potholes per mile in England and Wales. Pothole damage to cars costs on average £600 to fix. I blame Meghan Markle.
